Is this a good thing or a bad thing? (NWR)

Soooo I am a summer associate at a law firm and I am starting my 3rd year of law school in 3 weeks.  I was originally asked to continue on through the fall (2 days a week) at this law firm when I was hired in May.  Today, one of the partners comes in to tell me that he is taking the entire month of August off, and that they are changing the office a little bit and as of TODAY I don't need to come back anymore.

Now, I really didn't like working there, but it was temporary and a paycheck so it was okay with me, but now, no paycheck through December, like I had planned!  So I don't know whether to be excited I have a free 3 weeks to do wedding stuff before school starts, or to be upset because I am now jobless!

  • I agree, go ahead and be excited about it! :) Especially if it wasn't a job you really enjoyed. If need be, I am sure you can pick up a part time "fun" job for awhile to help cover a few bills here and there.

(Confession: sometimes I wish I was told I wouldn't be needed at work so that I could finish planning the wedding and enjoy my summer without all the extra work related stress.)

This is how I am reacting to it, and I feel a little bad about it!

I love my puppy ... and my husband, I swear!
  • man, if i was in this position i would be freaking out because we cannot afford to pay our bills as is!  BUT, it sounds like you can at least survive on only one paycheck until December.  In which case, I say TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!!!  If we could pay all of our bills and wedding expenses on just gerren's income, you better believe if i was laid off i would lay on the beach, work out like crazy, and just plan the wedding until Sept.  :)
  • Being a stayathomemommy right now (not really by choice, got laid off in Dec) I can say as much as less money sucks, its really great to have free time!  Enjoy it, plan the heck out of the wedding and be thankful you didnt lose a job you loved!
