I got a brazilian... And have some questions

First off, it came out terrible! I'm so upset. The lady missed whole areas right up front. As in if I was wearing a bikini I would have to shave before hand...

Anyways onto the questions! I have little bits of hair everywhere. Like new spiky hair, but I had them immediatly after the waxing. Is this normal? Also, she didn't go anywhere near the back. I thought thats what a brazilian was was the whole front and back. Is that right?

I know I should of talked to her about this, but when it was the end she just left and said that she would be right back. I wasn't even sure if I should put on my clothes on or what. I'm also mad at myself because I tipped her $20! I've worked in salons and waitressed so I'm always a sucker to be a good tipper, but she def did not deserve all that. Good thing is I got this 2 months before the wedding to see how it went. I'm not sure if I'll be going back...

Re: I got a brazilian... And have some questions

  • She had given me a wipe and told me to clean up and she would be right back and left the room. I sat there for a few mintues and then eventually put my clothes back on because I didn't want to be a wierdo sitting there with no pants on when she was expecting me to be dressed haha. I didn't really notice it too much until I got home and really looked at everything, and looked up brazilians and read about how its the front and back. Thats a good idea though to call! I got a groupon for two of them, so either way I've already paid for a second. The place is a good 45 minutes away from me so its just kind of a pain.
  • Call and talk someone. That is def not normal. I've been going for a year now and I've never had a bad experience with it. But it depends on where you go. I always see the same lady and she explained it to me my first time that is the worst one. Which is true.

Also, that it depends on your hair type. Some people have really thick and it's harder to maintain and wax. And that you need to have 7-14 days worth of growth. My sister just went for her first one and it went great and her bf loved it.

But calling and explaining what happened doesn't hurt, especially if you have a groupon and will be going back. Good luck and sorry that you had a bad experience!

  • Thanks, its good to know thats not how its suppose to be. I think she was a little burnt out by the time I got there because she mentioned to me how I was her 4th brazilian wax she had that day.

I know I had the rigth length of hair because she told me to look at it and remember because it was the absolute perfect length to have waxed haha.
  • Sorry you had a bad experience.  While I would call the salon and explain what happened, I wouldn't see the same esthetician.  She sounds extremely unprofessional.  I've been seeing the same person for a couple of years and never had any problems.  If you go again, talk to the woman first about what your expectations are and that you had a bad experience the first time.  A true professional should really explain the process to you if it's your first time.
    Good luck!

You're kidding, right? She's going to be burnt out after 4 brazilians? The salon I go to has a turnover rate of 15 minutes. Depending on the day, they can see dozens and dozens of people & they told me that brazilians are one of their most popular waxes. That is not a good excuse. <div>
</div><div>She obviously messed up or perhaps had no idea what she was doing. Definitely go back & either have them fix it or refund you. Ideally, you should have said something before leaving, but lesson learned. For the left over short hair, was it the same length as the rest of the hair before, or shorter?  If it's shorter, then prehaps it was some ingrown hair that has now popped out. That happened to me at the beginning, before I started using their ingrown serum. </div><div>
</div><div>I go to European Wax Center where they use hard wax & no strips. I highly suggest you looking for one in your area & trying them out. They are very professional & know what they're doing. Plus, they're moderately priced and have discount packages. It's worth it.</div>
  • I agree with the others in that you need to call the salon and explain the situation.  That is not normal, nor professional, and it needs to be addressed.

I will say a little really short hair is normal after the first one, solely because there will always be some just under the surface that waxing will free up, but it should be minimal.  The woman I go to will do the wax then take tweezers to get any of the short ones the wax missed, so past that first wax I haven't had any extra growth left.

She sounds unprofessional in attitude as well, so it might be worth asking if there's another person available to do waxes.  It makes it much less awkward to have someone drip hot wax on your lady bits if they're, you know, nice about it.
  • I forgot to mention that where I go also goes back with a tweezer after. I re-read your post & realized that she gave you a wipe & then told you to clean yourself? I don’t know about other places, but I’ve never had to do that. They clean the area & apply the serum and lotion themselves. This person needs to get out of that business.

rlavach, thanks for the European Wax Center recommendation. I just looked them up, and those are really good prices!
  • Yikes. That was a bad salon. A great salon will leave you spotless, both in front and back, go over you with a tweezer to make sure, and take about 15 minutes.

I would go back and complain. You can see if they can fix it, but depending on how short the hairs are you may have to wait until it grows out for another full wax. Don't go there again.

  • Thank you so much everyone! You have made me feel so much better! I was thinking "wow I don't know why people get all excited about waxing its not all that..."

I can't believe people are saying it takes 15 minutes! I was there for an hour. She used both strips, and hard wax and a lot of the time she was just standing around kind of waiting for the hard wax to harden up more.

I said I think she was burnt out because I had originally had my appointment scheduled for the day before, but I got a call from the salon saying she was sick and asking if I could reschedule. I rescheduled for the very next day, so I think she was still kind of sick. I don't know! I got a groupon for two of them so I did book another appointment, but it is with a different lady. Hopefully this one will go better.
