Retro and Vintage Weddings

vintage/fall wedding.

My FI and I are planning a wedding for October 15th 2011 and we want a vintage theme but since our wedding will be in the fall, so we were looking for some ideas for centerpieces, colors, flowers, and just anything really to help us tie in the vintage but fall wedding theme. :)

Re: vintage/fall wedding.

  • My first instinct would be to go rustic. As far as colors, the sort of obvious choices would be orange, yellow, brown, ivory and sage green. Flowers would typically be mums, zinnias and roses with lots of greenery. The bouquet wrap could be either raffia or maybe a eyelet ribbon. Centerpieces could be dark brown baskets with flowers.or a tree cutout with bark edges with your table numbers on them and some candles. Something like this: http://downthegreenaisle.com/blog/archives/tag/centerpiece

Or you might want to go in a completely different direction. That's just my first thought. What did you generally have in mind?

  • I havent set a date yet, but fiance and I are looking at something around that date too. I've fallen in love with a pair of shoes and they're leading me to a palette of rich jewel tones, deep reds, navy, rich opulent purple and maybe some splashes of emerald green, and using lots of different textures (the shoes are felt) in little touches like ribbons in tulle, lace, velvet and maybe even burlap.

For the questbook we are wanting to get a vintage type writer for people to type on instead of writing in a questbook. The dress I found that I want is black and white so the wedding party will be in black. We were looking at doing blue and amber colored mason jars for center pieces and the fiance wants them to be sat on wood.  like this ( you also posted a picture that kind of looked like this) but we want mason jars instead. so We are thinking black white with blue amber and a deep red.

We are planning to have the ceremony and reception both outside so we were going to look for a vintage older truck to set wedding gifts on, then for wedding favors we are going to be doing candy apples. I mean we have a pretty good idea what we want but Im not sure if this is all going to flow like we want it to. We definitely want to do vintage (boyfriend is into vintage motorcycles and anythng old) and we picked the fall just cause fall is so pretty!

[QUOTE]Blue and amber would be beautiful together. I like the pop of red too. Have you ever read ruffledblog? They have a huge wealth of amazing ideas and is a favorite these parts. :)

I thought the blue and amber would go great together too! Someone posted a tutorial on painting mason jars so we are going to paint them ourselves and I think the red will make it all pop as well :) no I havent read from there, but I am going to have to look. Thank you.

  • Sounds like you have a good start so far! Our original plan was black, white, & ivory. Using branches and white pumpkins for the fall aspect. We are also using vintage typewriters in our wedding.

I agree with pps advice on going for a vintage rustic look. Sooo many options! Good luck :)

  • You mentioned that your future hubby likes vintage motorcycles.  This might be too over the top, but if he knows a bunch of people who own vint cycles, maybe you could borrow and line them up along the path to your location and decorate them, a bit, with fall flowers or leaves and ribbon.  Or at least decorate and have one or two near the entrance to your location.  Anyway, just a thought.

Love your vintage typewriter idea, as well as all the other charming touches (a vintage gift truck? BRILLIANT!).

I LOVE THAT MOTORCYCLE IDEA! AH! But not alot of people where we are from have vintage motorcycles, in good shape at least! :( or else I would talk to the FI about that, I still might talk to him anyways! We thought about a vintage gift truck too! I love that idea. :)
