Honeymoon Ideas?

My FH and I cannot decide on a honeymoon destination.  We like history, art, water, and shopping.  I am seriously considering somewhere that is all-inclusive.  Any ideas?  We would like to keep it budget friendly. ;-)

Re: Honeymoon Ideas?

  • I really don't know much about the town - how bad am I? - but we are going to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! Not that Minni and Des Moines are similar, but our flight situation might be similar. We just had one layover to get to Puerto Vallarta, so that kept the cost down. We're staying at a Dreams Resort for under $3000 for 6 nights. I don't know what your budget is, but I'm just throwing this out there!
Good luck! It's SO much fun looking at honeymoon resorts!
  • How about Washington, DC? There are tons of free attractions (historical stuff, smithsonians, etc), and i imagine a lot of art and shopping, too! And it doesn't look far from the East Coast on a map, so maybe you can find some water! :)
  • Washington DC, Boston, San Francisco, Key West, and New Orleans are all excellent choices if you want to stay state-side, and they meet all your criteria.

With the dollar trading so low right now against the Euro, Europe will be pretty expensive.  However, there are a lot of places that will be pricey to fly to, yet you can spend next to nothing once you're there, such as Peru, Thailand, etc.

Provide some more info and we can help you out more.

  • many of the islands in the caribbean have wonderful colorful histories. st kitts, st martin, barbados etc... not sure what your budget is or when you plan on going or for how long.

If you're set on AI and want history/art, then it's either Cancun/Riviera Maya or a cruise through Europe.  If you're willing to give up the AI, then your options are much better.  What's your budget?
  • Puerto Rico might be an option- there are a lot of things to see/do- hikes thru the rain forest, beaches, the old downtown area is really quaint- we stayed there for a few days a couple years ago and had a great time- we hiked up to some light house area, pretty waterfalls- then spent a day walking around the downtown historical area, a couple days at the beach/pool.... it might be cheaper than the caribbean and no passport needed!
  • I agree with PP that Puerto Rico may be a good option.  It's almost always a stop on a cruise so you can do that too if you're looking to go the "all inclusive" route.
