Downsized?

I'm amazed these people haven't been tracked down and had their asses kicked. $500/month to eat out when they're on food stamps?

And there's no effing way they could use up $700 in gas/car repairs if they took that cheaper rental. A 45 minute commute is not that bad for saving that much money per month.

And that 16-y-o! I though I was a crappy waitress, but $25 on a "good" night?! What?

Seriously, they need to go live with poor people and see how it's done. FFS, they're bringing in 56K a year. You can live on that. You don't get cable and Wiis and eating out once a week, but you can have a roof over your head, food on the table, and clothes on your back. For nine people. (It's quite a nice living for 3.)

People need to go back to basics.  Cable is not a necessity, and neither is a gaming system.

I didn't know the mom had MS too. Are they in debt because of her medical bills?

I missed the beginning, how/why did the 17 year old get a new car?

I missed the mom having MS. H made me turn it off at about 45 minutes because he was ready to find them and school them. With his fists.

They didn't mention medical bills when they saw the financial counselor, and they're currently on AZ state insurance. They did mention eating out, spending at least $200/month on going to kids' sports games, and $150/month on the youngest girl's cheerleading.

I missed the bit about the oldest's car, too. I'll try to find out.

Zilla, them's the breaks. I mean, it sucks for the kids, but if they can't work and support their own sports, then I don't think they should get them. No one's entitled to extracurriculars.

And in PHX, it would be not the greatest life evar, but I'm sure you could support 9 people on that money. Of course, 6 of those kids can get their own jobs, and I'm not sure why they haven't. (Kids can work restaurants and agricultural jobs at 14 in AZ.)

Cheerleading is insanely expensive, but there are ways to be able to allow the kids to participate (scholarships, bake sales, etc) without breaking the bank. I mean, really, if I were in that situation I'd cut out my fun stuff (video games, cable, eating out) so that my kids could have fun stuff. Although, I'd probably keep netflix...I'd need a babysitter after all.

I so wanted to punch those parents.  For eff's sake why are your children acting more grown up?  The mom losing it over coffee??  Yeah, MS makes you tired so make your own coffee!  Someone on the nest posted that they could save money by cutting her eyeliner allowance.  It sure looks like they hit some sort of tanning too.

I can cut them some slack on the Wii because they probably bought it when they had more money.

I feel bad for Bailey.  She said $25 in tips, but $250 per pay check.  Maybe the place isn't that busy?  At least she has a job.  I felt bad for her checking out and having $2 on the food stamp card.  Then her mom being so flip "I give the card to whomever to buy stuff."  GAHHHHHH.  Someone needs to get a grip on their finances!

I missed that she gets 250 per check. She must not be working for tips, then.

I doubt they tan. It is Phoenix, after all, where a "healthy" tan says, "I went to the mailbox without a hat!" I'm still tan from driving a convertible without air conditioning.
