Do I really need to wear a blusher?

I bought a blusher at David's Bridal to go with my veil but I am not sure if I really even like it anymore. I am having a traditional wedding and I would like to know if the blusher is even needed. Do brides still walk down the aisle wearing a blusher?

  • You really don't have to wear any kind of veil at all.

  • Blushers are optional. It mostly depends on family and religious traditions (in Catholic ceremonies it is very traditional) and if you can get away with personal preference. My mom is pretty adamant about me wearing one so I'm just going with it.

It's not needed, even for traditional weddings. If you don't want to wear a blusher, you can still wear a veil and have it look something like this (picture from David's Bridal website). Your hair stylist could also give you some tips on how to wear a veil, as a lot of girls bring the veil with them when they get their wedding hair done.

  • Well, if you tried it on with the gown and veil and don't like it, don't wear it.  I'm not even wearing a veil, I didn't see the point of it, but I'm not traditional in the least.

    I didn't even wear a veil!
  • I think it's becoming less and less common for the bride to wear a blusher.  I've been to 5 weddings the past year both in church and outside of church and not 1 bride had one.

  • Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever been to a wedding where the bride wore a blusher...

I am super traditional and I wore one. I have to say, some of my fave photos are close up shots of me coming down the aisle with a veil over my face. Also, the moment when my dad lifted my veil is not one that I wanted to pass on. However, it is completely personal, just wanted to speak up and let you know that some people do still wear one, even if it is a two tier veil with the top pulled over and not a separate piece!

  • It's totally personal preference. It's funny, because the gals at the bridal salon told me that I was the first bride since the spring who was insisting on a blusher.
  • Nope, not necessary.
