June 2013 Weddings

favors

Since we're apparently not getting the other threads back, I thought I'd go ahead and just start a new one.

We're planning on doing welcome bags for our guests as favors. We don't have a single guest not coming from out of town, so it seems like the best option. Probably about 95% of them have never been to the Finger Lakes region/NY wine country where we live/are getting married. So we want to give them a little slice of it.

Is anyone else doing welcome bags? I'm not sure if I should make one for every family/couple coming together, or one for each person. I'm planning on doing one per family/couple at this point. They're going to be relatively pricey to assemble and since there will be a few things in it, I don't see the need to make one for EVERY guest. If we were doing something like pictures frames I'd do one for everybody, but this doesn't seem to fall into that same kind of favor category.

I also have to find out if our hotel will charge us to hold them behind the desk. I guess a lot do, but since our reception is at the hotel I hoping they wont. They pride themselves in not gouging fees onto everything. I hope this is one of them!

Re: favors

  • Not doing welcome bags except for OOT guests. I went to a wedding last year where they had a small destination wedding (it was still in the state but about a 5 hour drive for everyone) and they did a welcome bag for every couple/family instead of a little favor. It was really nice and obviously it was not cheap for them to assemble, so I think your plan sounds great. Their wedding was so small, that they invited everyone to their rehersal dinner the night before and handed them out there.

I am doing a photobooth for my favors. I have always loved the idea, and love the fact that I get a memory book of all the pictures. I think I am going to buy the photostip frames from the company and use those as my escort cards as well.

  • Right now we're torn on what to do. We are either going to do a candy buffet with blue and champagne colored candies. We'd get frosted take-out boxes and those would double not only as the favor containers but also the escort cards.

However, if a groupon comes out for a Photobooth-that doesn't expire before June 2013-we might get that. I know how much my family loves that idea but they don't realize just how expensive they can be!

We don't really have a lot of OOT guests, and the few who are coming have been here many times - so no welcome bags for us!

For our favours, I will be making 3 types of cookies (I'm a huge baker and it really relaxes me, so I will enjoy the "break to bake" in the days leading up to the wedding).  I'm just trying to decide if I should put the cookies in jars like a candy buffet and have people serve themselves.  Or should I pre-package them into the little baggies that will be left on place settings.  What do you ladies think is best?

  • We aren't for sure if we are even doing favors. I've never personally liked any of the few favors I've recieved at weddings. It just seems like a waste of money to us. If we do them, it will probably just be a simple little container of bubbles. I know that the children at the wedding would enjoy those.

  • Mrskaiser, I booked shutterbooth at a bridal show about a month ago. They have a really good bridal show package where it's 795 and you get to pick 2 free extras from a list. We chose an extra hour and a top of the line memory book. I just really like them and they have been awesome about emailing me back when I have questions.

I'm with you on that one. I really think we are going to skip the whole favor thing. Every wedding I've been to I've not had much interest in the favors. So I don't really think our guests would care if we have them or not. Besides I'm on a tight budget and can't see spending the money.

  • We decided to nix the favors, and do a candy buffet instead.  Part of that was because my MOH, who introduced me and FI, has severe milk allergies, but she loooves candy.  This girl has a major sweet tooth, so the candy buffet will eliminate useless favors, and give her something sweet since she won't be eating any cake.
