Getting in Shape

need to go down 52 pounds in 4 months and ahalf!

My name is lucia! My wedding is in one year and 7 months but we have our engagement pictures in january and I need to go down 52 pounds in 4 months! Has anyone had this same problem??? Where should I start please help!

Re: need to go down 52 pounds in 4 months and ahalf!

  • I'm on a medicine called Phentermine and it has really changed my life!! I lost 7 pounds in a week just by taking it and drinking nothing but water! Of course, you should really talk to your doctor about since it is medicine and it isn't for everyone. It's only available through a prescription.

    Good luck!! :)

  • We advocate clean eating and exercise here not phentermine. I think 20-30 pounds is feasible in 4 months but not 52. There are pins at the top of the board reccomending eating plans and exercise. There is also an accountability post daily here except weekends.

  • Yup, with dew.  If you really want this, you need to do it the right way - healthy eating and exercise.  I recommend a site like MyFitnessPal and joining our accountability thread, or perhaps try something like Weight Watchers if you think you might have trouble keeping yourself on point.

  • Phentermine is awesome if you like to shake, not sleep, and not eat enough calories to sustain your hyperactivity, not to mention gain all the weight back when you stop taking it.  And a 7 pound weight loss in one week is terribly unhealthy.

52 pounds is not a realistic goal for 4 months.  You can definitely get an awesome start though, and 52 pounds (or more, if you need to lose even more than that) is definitely doable by your wedding.

I agree with PPs to read the stickied posts to find out where to start.  Just remember, you didn't put it on in 4 months, it won't come off in 4 months (in a healthy, sustainable way).

  • Thanks ladys! Ill start working out and eating healthy :) I just downloaded myfitnesspal :)
  • I would also suggest cutting back on your refined carbs and sugars- eliminate anything white.  I personally maintain my weight and feel much better when the majority of my carbs come from veggies and fruits.  I do eat carbs such as sweet potatoes and brown rice, but definitely in moderation.

I think it's great you want to lose weight for your engagement photos, but don't crash diet or you will just pack it all back on.  Can you push your engagement photos out 2-3 more months?  You want to lose the weight slowly so it's permanent.

And kudos to everyone for nixing the phentermine idea....taking pills and only drinking water?  I think I would rather weigh a little more than go through the misery of that.

Once you get started and see results, you will be motivated!  Oh, and drinks lots of water!  Good luck!

I can't do this.  I love bread too much.  What I did though was start thinking of bread like sweets.  I can have one or the other.  If I have garlic bread with dinner, I cannot have chocolate for dessert.  This helps keep me in check.

ETA - something that I've found that keeps me from craving carbs and sugars is yoga.  Don't ask me why but after a yoga session the thought of pasta, bread, cake, etc. actually turns my stomach.

I tried weight watchers and was happy with it for maybe 2 months. My issue is the nutritional facts needed to figure out points weren't always on restraunts nutrition guides or posted. I'm now using MyFitnessPal and have lost 8 pounds in a month! You can easily lose 2 pounds a week if you follow their calories and drink lots of water! I'm not even really excercising! Go for it! It has a free app and website! Add me, and other friends of yours, for support! <div>Not a bad way to do it, but also think about what carbs you're picking.  When possible, try to go for whole wheat, and be careful of the word 'multigrain,' which often still means it has enriched/processed flours and lots of white flour.  I didn't give up carbs or cut back too much, but I picked 'better' carbs-quinoa, whole wheat bread and pasta, etc.  I'm also now trying not to have any carbs after lunchtime, which is really making a difference.</div>

  • Hey there!  CONGRATS on your ENGAGEMENT!  OMG, you must be so excited!!  How is the planning going?!

I saw that you posted about losing weight and wanting to look totally fabulous on your wedding day.  Who doesn't?  I just got married (June 2012)!  I wish I could do it alll over again, it was a blast!  But anyways, I had a goal of my own to lose weight and body fat.  I had a super short engagement (6mos) so I was time crunched.  I saw an infomercial on TV, for P90X, and I thought, why not?  I had heard about it before, but thought it might be too hard.  But, after trying to workout on my own in the gym, I was ready to try anything at that point.  I didn't want to look back on my pics and be disappointed in myself, ya know?

Well, I am SO happy I did it.  I lost 11% body fat.  In 3 months!  I was happier, I had more energy, and more importantly... I JUST got my professional photos back, and I LOVE the way I look.  Honestly.

So, when I saw your post, I wanted to share what worked for me.  I'm more than happy to chat with you about your goals and what your plan is for weightloss.  I'd LOVE to help a fellow bride out.

Send me your email address so we can chat without theknot as a middle man.  My email is CoachCaitlinTBB@gmail.com.  I also have a blog with before and after pics if you're interested.  It's CaitlinOnAMission.blogspot.com

Again, congrats to you and your future hubby!  This is the best time of your life, enjoy every single minute of it!

     <3,

    Caitlin

No CARBS after lunchtime, or no GRAINS after lunchtime?  Big difference, and a huge pet peeve of mine.

Sort of.  I mean, now I'm just being an asshole, but technically fruits and veggies (except the starchy ones, those are complex) are simple carbs because they have only a single sugar.  And so is milk--it's double sugared.  Unless that's what you're saying--that you're not eating fruits and veggies and refined sugars after lunchtime.  In which case I'm not only being an asshole but assuming incorrectly.  Because I assume you are still eating fruits and veggies after lunchtime.  And if you're not, well, then I totally don't understand why.

</div><div>Haha, it's cool JK, and an entirely fair discussion. </div><div>I do pretty much all legumes, starchy veggies, and proteins after lunchtime.  Fruits are my morning snack(s.)  I didn't exactly plan the fruit-veggie breakdown, it just tended to work out that way.  So I guess 'refined' is the only truly clear, key differentiator here.  So, to restate and clarify: I don't eat refined sugar, and seriously watch my intake of simple sugars after lunch.  </div><div>Yes?</div><div>

  • Yes!  Ha, thanks for not hating me.  I guess I mostly was honestly just not understanding exactly what you were trying to say.  But as it turns out, you really did mean what you said!  I apologize for assuming you didn't know what you were talking about ;)  I should know better, you're normally fairly sane here.

  • Thanks, I try.  It's completely fair to put those type of statements through the ringer - I feel like any exercise/diet newbies might misunderstand just as easily, if not moreso, so the clarification is probably helping a few people.
This is probably how insane fad diets get started.

  • Probably.  Way to have all the lurking masses out there not eating anything but protein after lunchtime ;)

  • I lost 40 lbs in 3 months! Don't worry its possible! Cut out ALL sugary stuff like soda and candy. Don't eat fast food what so ever! Give yourself a workout plan that consists of a heavy workout every other day and the other days do small, light workouts.

In order to keep nutrition, I only ate fresh fruits and veggie's. Only eat chicken or fish, other meats are really fatty and harder for you digestive system! Stay away from carbohydrates in the morning and midday, only eat it at dinner time!

If you want to be lazy and lose calories at the same time, sleep! you loose more calories sleeping then when you do when your sitting down watching TV.

And my number one tip, drink LOTS of water... I drink a lot of water in the summertime and the fat literally falls off! Plus it makes my skin clearer and my hair softer!

Good Luck! It sounds like a lot, but trust me, it is so worth it!
