Planner question

Do you still research vendors, get quotes/proposals, ect. on your own even if your planner has given you vendor recommendations?  If you do find another vendor you'd like to get information from (who isn't on your planner's preferred vendor list), do you contact the vendor yourself or do you ask your planner to?

For me the whole point of having a planner is so that I can save time by not researching.  However, I found a cake place that I liked and mentioned it to my planner and she contacted them for me.  Personally I prefer this since I have zero negotiating skills.

I think the planner should do all the work. Thats if they are a full planner. any Day of Planner is just helping for that day.

I do research if I have time, I find vendors myself (on the knot) and through her. Then I usually have my planner contact them because I hate negotiating.

I fired my planner because I hired them for partial planning and they told me I only had the option of going through their vendors or do the leg work myself.  Which is not what I was told from initial meeting.

Obviously I'm still bitter about it.  So depends on the planner and what they decide is part of the package.

I'm usulayy given three options.  If I have a vendor I'm interested in that's not one of the options, I ask for her opinion and she researches them and gives me the info.  After that, I make a decision.

I agree with PP. You paid her/him to help you out with your wedding. So say something to them and have them call. They can't tell you who you should and shouldn't use as a vendor. They also shouldn't say no to calling a vendor for you.

if there was a vendor that i heard good things about, I'd let my planner know that i was interested in that person, but once i booked with my planner, i didn't have to do any more researching or negotiating, and I loved it! :)

if i ever had any questions about a vendor she was suggesting that I had not heard of, I just posted a quick question here :)

A good planner will explain the options you have up front and they will have a good understanding of what you prefer out of your planner. Most planners will have preferred vendors that they trust, however that doesnt mean you are stuck with those vendors. However, some planners will only do business if you use those vendors, otherwise they wont.

My planner gave me the option and i personally dont want to have to negotiate prices or have to deal with the stress of researching. when i have time I do but I mostly leave it to her. My planner is fantastic if you are looking for one. Send me a message and ill give you the contact info and referral discount info.

Thanks ladies! I recently started working with a planner and got the partial planning package since we have already booked the majority of the big vendors. She's helping us book the last few vendors and the rest of our planning. Up until now, we were doing so much research so I definitely see the value in having a planner because all the vendor research and contacting vendors takes up so much time and work! I hate to admit it but I'm a little bit of a control freak and am always trying to make sure we're getting the best deal since we're paying for the wedding ourselves, so I was just curious to see how you girls work with your planner.
