When did you buy your shoes?

Before or after your dress came in?

When I was trying on dresses the other day I mentioned to the sale lady that I had seen shoes online and knew they carried the line. I wanted to try them on in store before buying them for MUCH cheaper online (I didn't tell her that). She said not to get shoes until my dress comes in. She said the length could be either shorter or longer by three inches from how I order it and if I have shoes and the dress comes in shorter I would have to get new shoes.

Thoughts on this? When did you get yours? TIA!

I got my shoes afterwards, but I haven't tried the dress on with the shoes. And I got my dress ridiculously early too, so there's that....

I bought mine before the dress came in and *hoped* that they'd be the right height.  Of course, I ordered them from Zappos so I was free to return them should it not work out.  But they were the perfect height.  No hemming needed at all!

I think if you get them somewhere you know you'll have no trouble returning them, it should be too big of an issue.  Just don't get too attached to them (easier said than done!).

I bought my shoes way early because my dream shoes were on sale almost $200 off on Rue La La... so I jumped on that shiz.

    Zappos.

I am 5'4 so no matter what shoe I got I knew my dress was getting hemmed.

Since my shoes are just really pretty flat sandals, I ordered them long before my dress came in. When it did they were perfect with the dress (I knew they would be) - and again since there wasn't any height to the shoes I was fine.

    sorry, not much help there.

I got mine after.... I had a pair I bought for a wedding I was in that I was going to wear, but it made the dress too short.

This. I ended up getting really high ones (4.5 inches) and still getting my dress hemmed.

I was going to use zappos as well, which I think has a 365 day return policy. I am 5'0" so I never thought I would have an issue, but she said I would probably order a dress hem to hollow and that would then affect the height of the shoe.

Cynical Bean says that even if they order it from hem to hollow, they will get it too long so that you will have to pay them to hem it. So, it'll be long anyway. If you have a pair of shoes you love, get them from Zappos or Shoes.com and then you can return them if they don't work.

I bought mine a year out haha. But I have infant sized feet so finding the perfect shoe in my size was a miracle. Also im 4'10 so my dress needed to be hemmed no mater what.

I think I bought mine in April for my July wedding.  I knew exactly wht I was getting, but I needed to save up a little, so I made sure I wore shoes that were the same height to all my fittings.

I bought mine a few months ago, but they're really small heels.  I don't think I'll need hemming.

I did also get those ones from Nordstrom, so we'll see what happens when they get here based on if they fit, feel okay, and what length my dress is.

This is what I thought but the girl said it could still come in either 3" too long or too short.

I did a hem to hollow dress (there is detail on the bottom, so it can't be hemmed).  I bought shoes when I bought the dress.  However, I lost weight, and now the dress hangs lower.  I had to buy shoes that were an inch taller than what I already had...

Ok, I skipped all the replies again (sorry!) so I don't know if I'm repeating anyone...

I waited until MY dress was in.  I took 2 pairs of heels (different heights) with me to the first fitting appoitnment.  I'm tall, so I didn't want to pay for it to be hemmed :)  I tried on my own heels with the dress, saw which height was good, then sought out shoes at that perfect height.

I got my dress last summer and I bought flats because I was getting frustrated with finding shoes.  I have a hard time since I am a size 12 foot.  Well I decided to look for new shoes and found and fell in love with a nina electra shoe with a 2 1/2 inch heel.  I don't know how I wound up so lucky, but I got them for $40 including shipping and handling.

But my dress is 4 inches too long, because I got the extra hem or else it would have been too short.  So all in all  I waited till after I got my dress.

I knew I didn't want to wear over 2 inches so I just looked for those and brought 2 inch heel to my seamstress but I did have my shoes for a long time before the wedding.
  • edited December 2011
I bought them before and the dress still needed like 4-5 inches hemmed
