Wedding Invitations & Paper

meh on invites.

We've been looking at the print it yourself sets at Michaels, and cheaper printing sites like Vista Print but...meh. These things end up in the trash, and we feel like they're a dime a dozen. Here's our idea: DF loves Legos. We have a Lego bride and groom set with a little arch and wedding scene. We were going to use it as a cake topper but we're no longer doing cake. Our goal this whole time is to have a good time and try and show as much of our personalities as possible. We are a silly couple. So we want to take our little Lego couple, and put them on  the steps of the church (or the sign) and take a picture.  Then put them on the sign for the venue and take a picture. Then we'll nicely type up the addresses, times, other pertinent details and take a picture. Then we'll throw in on of our engagement pics, put it all in some sort of Shutterfly arrangement, and boom, invite. We'd print up something really basic for the RSVP cards. This is what I made a mockup of. I only had Christmas card photos of our daughter  stored, and I didn't know what to put on the third line so ignore my lalala, but you get the point.
Has anyone gone this route? Invites just seem like such a money suck. No one remembers or saves them. I went to a wedding last night and I can't tell you want the invitations looked like except that it was pink.

Sounds like a great idea to me! Shows your personality for sure. As long as all the important info is there, should be fine.  Im doing DIY invites cause I dont want to break the bank on them - lots of cutting and pasting but id rather do the work than pay extra for premade ones or custom ones. I say go for it!

  • I think it's awesome. Are you going to print them out and send them like photo cards?

My only concern would be that legos are really tiny and you might not get a wide enough shot of the venues/signs to see what they are. Otherwise it might just look like legos on some generic steps. But I think it's totally cute and would work.

We're having a robot cake topper and did consider Legos too...
