What kind of foodie are you (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc.)?
Hmm, well I love me a good steak, but I also couldn't live without my bread and cheese!

    Your favorite food(s)?
Steak, my mom's homemade french fries, Chicken and dumplings, Ceasar salad, my Aunt's cheesy potato bake (It's got like a pound of sour cream in it...yum!)

What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND?
I don't do mashed potatoes. I love every other kind of potatoes. It's a texture thing.

    Your favorite restaurant(s)?
    The Melting Pot, Benihana

    Your favorite fast food joint(s)?
I don't eat a lot of fast food anymore, but it really depends on cravings. Sometimes I will just all of a sudden want a McD's burger, even though I know it's bad. Other times it's a Wendy's chicken wrap.

    Favorite thing(s) to cook?
I don't do a lot of cooking yet, but I am a master of gourmet grilled cheeses!

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?
He's Italian, so he's got pasta down

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
Grilling, for sure. My dad makes the best grilled portobello mushroom caps....

    Favorite cookbook(s)?
I don't really cook out of a cookbook, more just search for recipes I need online. I did buy the Melting Pot's fondue cookbook though and I am excited to try it!

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
Cheese. I must have good cheese. No Kraft crap.

Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
Unfortunately the only option that we can afford is the big stores like Kroger or Meijer. I like Whole Foods or Hiller's when I can. I loved when I visited NYC, because I adored all the little markets with fresh food and stuff. I want to be able to live that way.

What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge?
    Cheez-its!!!!

What are some things that are always on your grocery list?
Cheez-its! lol. They are my go-to snack food.

What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food?
My family kind of makes the same stuff for all the holidays, but I like the fall seasonal menus at places generally.

    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
Any of the fondue one from my new cookbook.

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
    Not sure about that one.

What kind of foodie are you (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc.)?
Omnivore, no doubt! I try to go organic where I can afford to...

    Your favorite food(s)?
Shrimp, calamari, steak, sugar snap peas, potatoes any way you make them, thanksgiving dinner, strawberries, greek yogurt, a big 'ol beefy burger. I really love food. Period.

What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND?
Fish (I wish I liked it!), oysters, clams (all other seafood is amazing!)

    Your favorite restaurant(s)?
We're big on local, non-chain haunts. Lucero's for Mexican food, Ramano's (not macaroni grill) for Italian, City Grille for burgers.

    Your favorite fast food joint(s)?
    Subway and Chick-Fil-A

    Favorite thing(s) to cook?
Anything. I am more of a cook than a baker...but i'll try any recipe once.

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?
SO cooks? haha. Well, he is an amazing griller! Anything on the grill he rocks at!!

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
Anything in the kitchen for me, anything on the grill for BF.

    Favorite cookbook(s)?
Cooks Illustrated. They have wonderful recipes and the pics are great tutorials when you're trying a new technique. I recently purchased their recipes for two...and it's great because i don't have tons of wasted leftovers that we never get to, but I still get to try out new dishes!

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
Macaroni, mashed potatoes, steak....and it really ticks me off when people overcook veggies. I like them to still have some crunch people!

Where do you get your groceries?
Generally Albertson's or King Soopers because they are close by. I'll treat myself to Whole Foods once in a while. Costco for meats!

Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
    Shop around.

What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge?
Chicken, shrimp, snap peas, tomatoes, strawberries, almonds, greek yogurt, mustard, balsamic vinegar, basil.

What are some things that are always on your grocery list?
Same as above! and if i'm being honest...ice cream too. But that doesn't usually last long.

What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food?
Thanksgiving by FAR! I love to cook...yay for getting to host it this year at my place. I'm totally drooling right now.

    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
something with short ribs...they just sound like summer and i've never made them before.

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
haha - you Oceana, of course!

You're on death row - what's your last meal?
A humongous pile of mashed potatoes and a steak. I'm sure I could pick something more amazing...but steak and potatoes are a classic.

phew...I feel like I just completed a marathon! And thanks BTW, it's only 10am here and now i'm starving. **runs off to fridge to scrounge up some sugar snap peas** Smile

What kind of foodie are you (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc.)?
    Omnivore
    Your favorite food(s)?
Mashed potatoes, crusty bread, fresh veggies, cheese. Ice cream. I don't know how I don't weigh 1000 lbs.
What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND?
I'm not a picky eater. . . but I don't really like lobster or other shellfish - the texture gets to me.
    Your favorite restaurant(s)?
Joy's Noodles (a Thai place near our apartment) is coming to mind right now.
    Your favorite fast food joint(s)?
Chipotle and Wendy's are my top two.
    Favorite thing(s) to cook?
Anything in my slow cooker (especially pulled pork for tacos)
Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?
He makes a mean over-easy egg!
Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
I love to roast things (essentially baking) especially vegetables. It brings out so much good flavor. If we had a grill I'm sure we'd love that too.
    Favorite cookbook(s)?
I have a few from The Food Network, but I get most of my recipes off the interwebz.
Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
So this is gonna sound strange, but FI and I once bought a can of store brand refried beans . . . worst thing I've ever eaten. I will never buy store brand refried beans again - only the name brand ones (la preferida). It is a weird thing to be snobby about, I know.  I'm also a huge snob about Buffalo Wings - having grown up in Western/Upstate NY I have a thing about them. They need to be cooked and sacued a certain way (don't you dare bread my wings) and served with blue cheese dip and celery sticks. . . I've searched high and low for a good place in Chicago and found Lincoln Station. They're a Bills and Sabres bar, so you know they've gotta have good wings (and they do!).
Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
We shop for the majority of our groceries at Jewel. Occasionally I'll stop by the farmer's market near work to get a few veggies to supplement meals.
What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge?
Peanut butter, soy milk, eggs, beans, coffee, tortillas, pasta and sauce. etc
What are some things that are always on your grocery list?
Cereal, chicken, lunch meat, carrots, fruit, soymilk, yougurt.
What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food?
Winter. I loooove all the hearty meals I can make in my crockpot. But then there is summer with its gorgeous bounty of fresh veggies. . . so I'm torn.
    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
None at the moment. I am looking forward to the New Food Network star's show "the sandwich king" though.
Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
I <3 Smitten Kitchen to death. Make her chocolate peanut butter cake. You won't be sorry.
You're on death row - what's your last meal?
My Grandmother's take on Thanksgiving dinner.  Turkey, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, her stuffing. To die for!

What kind of foodie are you (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc.)?
Omnivore, but a lot of my meals tend to lack meat. Lately, I've really gotten into substituting meat for things with a "meaty" texture (i.e. eggplant, portabello mushrooms).

    Your favorite food(s)?
Anything with cheese. I also like pastas with white wine based sauces.

What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND?
    Miracle Whip and Stroganoff

    Your favorite restaurant(s)?
Monstah Lobstah- a no-frills restaurant in Vegas with super cheap sandwiches and really good lobster mac n cheese.

    Your favorite fast food joint(s)?
Cafe Rio for good chain Mexican food
    Jimmy Johns for subs

    Favorite thing(s) to cook?
    Chicken, because it's so versatile

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?
He doesn't cook much other than chicken, brown rice, and sweet potatoes. He does make a pretty quick and delicious baked ziti though.

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
Definitely a charcoal grill, but now that I live in an apartment with the smallest balcony ever it's hard to use that. I resort to baking because it's easiest.

    Favorite cookbook(s)?
I don't really have any. I just collect stuff off the internet.

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
I'm usually not a huge fan of Spanish rice, but there's a generic brand from a grocery store in Nevada that I really love. Also, I really prefer Greek yogurt that's from Chiobani and has fruit on the bottom. Yum!

Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
I shop around. I alternate between the regular grocery store and Walmart and Target.

What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge?
    Pasta and brown rice

What are some things that are always on your grocery list?
Bananas, Ice cream, chicken, milk, Greek yogurt

What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food?
4th of July! I love grilling and warm weather. There's nothing better than a pool party, a bbq, and fireworks!

    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
    THIS French Onion Soup

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
    I like yours, Oceana!

You're on death row - what's your last meal?
Lobster and a grilled cheese sandwich.
  • edited December 2011
What kind of foodie are you (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc.)?
I'm an omnivore - I love my meat, but I love my grains and fruits as well. I try to eat local as much as possible, and organic when I can, but if there's a major cost difference, then I buy what's most readily available and inexpensive.

    Your favorite food(s)?
Teriyaki or chimmichurri skirt steak, kettle chips, good chocolate, Meyer lemons, pumpkin, queso fresco.

What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND?
    Most vegetables, keilbasa, meatloaf

    Your favorite restaurant(s)?
Tijuana Taxi Company (SoFL), BD's Mongolian BBQ, Andolinni's Pizza (Charleston), Imperial Dragon (NE Ohio)

    Your favorite fast food joint(s)?
    Chipotle, Arby's, Pizza Hut

    Favorite thing(s) to cook?
Lasagna. Lasagna is one of those nice, warm classic meals that you make when you're with friends. There's nothing better than a plate full of lasagna, fresh bread, a glass of wine, and your buddies. I also like making my "cheesy bread" (thin slices of baguette + queso fresco + olive oil + smoked paprika + sea salt, baked for 10 min = NOM NOM NOM).

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?
My DH makes some mean steaks and pork chops.

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
We broil and grill quite a lot, but I like to bake as well.

    Favorite cookbook(s)?
Cooking Light's Complete Cookbook (LINK) is a food bible...there's more recipes in there than I'll ever be able to accomplish in a lifetime. I also love their seasonal cookbook (LINK).

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
I'm super anal about my mac & cheese...it's ridiculous. It's gotta be Kraft, it's gotta be the shapes, and it has to be cooked a certain way. I'm super picky about pizza too - it's gotta have one of those buttery/crispy pan crusts, and it better be dripping in cheese (and I do mean dripping).

Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
We shop all over. We get our produce from a local farmers market, our meats from a local deli, our bulk stuff from Costco, and the rest from either SuperTarget or Publix. It's an effort, but we end up getting better quality stuff for less money.

What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge?
Lemons, smoked paprika, olive and peanut oil, fresh herbs, fresh garlic, eggs, organic milk, tomato-free BBQ sauce.

What are some things that are always on your grocery list?
Fresh herbs, Meyer lemons (I snatch them up when I can find them), asparagus, fresh fruit (usually whatever's in season), eggs.

What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food?
Autumn, hands down. I love the soups and stews, the roasted turkey and chicken. Most of all, I LOVE LOVE LOVE anything with pumpkin or apple.

    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
I'd love to try Pioneer Woman's salted caramel brownies (LINK) or her peach whiskey BBQ chicken (LINK). Her baked lemon pasta (LINK) also looks amazing...like, so amazing, I may have to try it this weekend. I'd also really like to master cake pops, but I'm not there yet.

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
I love Pioneer Woman (LINK), Culinerapy (LINK), Confessions of a Cookbook Queen (LINK), and Cooking Light's recipe database (LINK). I've gotten some fantastic recipes off Katanne and Paige that I still need to try.

You're on death row - what's your last meal?
Teriyaki skirt steak (medium rare), an ice cold Mexican Coke (yes, there is a difference, lol), a bag of salt & vinegar kettle chips, and a slice of Cheesecake Factory Vanilla Bean cheesecake.

Your favorite food(s)? Pasta pasta and more pasta! Seriously you can't mess it up and it's hella versatile! Also Nectarines, even though whenever I eat them my lip swells up. I'm really partial to anything chocolate related as well. and Shrimp! I park it next to the shrimp platter at any party I go to.

What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND? People are going to hate me but Potatoes. I just do not like them. Bridget hates Potatoes and guiness....worst Irish girl ever.

Your favorite restaurant(s)? Cuchi cuchi in Cambridge MA is my favorite restaraunt in the whole wide world. Flapper waitresses and tapas with a twist. Menu: http://www.cuchicuchi.cc/menu.html

Your favorite fast food joint(s)? I still love the McDonald's dollar menu. Cosi has some awesome soup.

Favorite thing(s) to cook? Pork Roast with Mango Ginger Rub! for dessert: Banana split whoopie pies :)

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks? Adrian has gone ahead and perfected a classic: Gumbo. It's different every time and lasts for days.

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)? Baking by far. It's easy and fun :)

Favorite cookbook(s)?: I have a better homes and garden cookbook that's broken down into sections and is great for quick crowd pleasers. I also got a book of 50 chocolate cakes that I'm working through slowly but surely.

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?: This is gonna sound weird but Ramen Noodles. They need to be the original, completely unhealthy ones. SO always gets different brands from super 88 when we're broke and I hate them.

Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot? For meat and liquor SO and I go to the Russian market around the corner from our apartment. For anything generic there's a 24 hour Shaw's down the block.

What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge? Pasta of some kind. I always have the baking essentials: Flour Sugar, Butter, chocolate bricks for melting, Baking Powder, the usual.

What are some things that are always on your grocery list? v8 Fusion, Whole wheat bread, Yogurt, 2% Milk (it's the best of the %s), Pasta, Tomatoes, Salad stuff.

What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food? Christmas. Simply because my mom and I make a ton of food together. The main dish is always a Spiral honey Ham with Raisin Sauce. Plus I end up making Magi's Jewel (aka thumbprint) cookies the whole month of December.

Recipe(s) you're dying to try? I don't have one in particular, but I might after I review all the responses on here.

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes? For baked goods I follow Natalie on bakeanddestroy.net. Ever since I saw her in Bust Magazine I'm hooked. I might have to start following the Pioneer Woman since yesterday's post.

You're on death row - what's your last meal? Adrian's red gumbo with Shrimp, Chicken and Andoulle Sausage over rice. Just bring in the Pot and we'll see how much I can get through.

What kind of foodie are you (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc.)?
Onmivore, but since SO is a vegetarian I'm more of an herbivore most days.

    Your favorite food(s)?
Salmon! It's the only meat I'll cook at home (so I can share it with the cat).

What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND?
Onions, which makes life hard. I'm trying to get used to them, I've started putting candy onions in instead of leaving them out of recipes.

    Your favorite restaurant(s)?
There's a pizza place near me that uses local, yummy ingredients. It's amazing. I get apple & prosciutto with grana padano.  Yum!

    Your favorite fast food joint(s)?
Chik fil A, although I try hard not to eat it anymore. For quick lunches, I love Potbelly. We also usually have Moe's or Chipotle too often for dinner on lazy nights.

    Favorite thing(s) to cook?
Lately it's quinoa with cheddar and broccoli. I usually just throw the cheese in before I serve it, but tonight I might try it with an actual cheese sauce, and bake it like mac & cheese.  Wish me luck Wink

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?
Chili! Although it's a constant battle because he likes this so much spicer than I can tolerate. Chili that's incredible to me is tasteless to him.

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
Roasted vegetables are incredible. I also like stir-frying a lot.

    Favorite cookbook(s)?
Fast, Fresh & Green, definitely. I would link but my browser doesn't want to, so google it! It has a section for each type of cooking style, a base recipe, and different variations. It even includes the cooking times for a ton of veggies you could use for that style.

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
Crabcakes. I'm pretty snobby about potato chips, but I'm not going to pretend I won't eat any...

Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
I try to get all of my fruits and vegetables at the farmer's market, and everything else I usually get when I need it, so I go to the grocery store I'm closest to when I remember.

What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge?
Soy sauce, orange juice, tomato sauce, and couscous/quinoa/pasta. Also cheese!

What are some things that are always on your grocery list?
Cheese, cinnamon rolls (it's a tradition), frozen Morningstar things (I love the chikn patties on a bun with honey).

What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food?
I love fall and Thanksgiving. Pumpkin and sweet potatoes are my favorite.

    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
My mac & cheese quinoa tonight! SO is pretty good about trying anything I make, so I can experiment whenever I want. If it doesn't work, he's always OK with backup frozen meals!

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
    I don't know yet!

You're on death row - what's your last meal?
    Crabcakes with Utz potato chips.

What kind of foodie are you (carnivore, omnivore, vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc.)?
Omnivore... I like a good veggie dish, but I could never ever give up meat!

    Your favorite food(s)?
I love food with Latin flavors. I also really enjoy Indian and Thai flavors as well. Spicy is goooood!!!

What food(s) can you absolutely NOT STAND?
I HATE CALAMARI!!!! I also do not like green beans, asparagus or peas from a can... YUCK!

    Your favorite restaurant(s)?
Mexican ones that use really fresh ingredients. I love a good hole in the wall <Mexican joint as much as the next lady, but give me one that has real flavor and herbs they've grown outside and I'm all over it.

If you are ever in the STL, here are my favorite Fresh Made Mexican, Upper Scale Mexican, Casual Mexican and Hole in the Wall Mexican restaurants (<-All Clickys)

    Your favorite fast food joint(s)?
I don't eat "fast food", but I'll go with Chipotle. They are delicious and easy to grab for lunch or dinner :)

    Favorite thing(s) to cook?
Again, anything with tons of flavor. I like really bold flavors. My favorite things to make are Latin of course :)  Enchilada pie, supreme Nachos, Fajitas, etc... All with a fancy twist and with healthy fresh ingredients!

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?
Steak, sweet potatoes and asparagus :) Total meat and potatoes kind of guy, if he can put it on a grill, he can make it!

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
I have a very small kitchen so I have to get creative. I love my crockpot oven, griddle and skillet. Combine those with my huge pot and sauce pan and I can whip anything together with a little effort :)

    Favorite cookbook(s)?
I just bought one about cooking healthy for 2, but I usually don't use a cookbook or recipes. My father is a chef and I learned to cook by tasting and mixing what feels right together.

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
Not really, I loooove tying new places and new flavors. If I am going for super cheap hole in the wall Mexican, I ALWAYS go to El Maguey!!!

Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
I go to Schnucks, Walmart, Target, Aldi, and Sam's Club. Each store has certain things that only they carry and its worth it to me to spend a couple evenings twice a month getting the best prices and best items. I also hit up Trader Joes whenever I'm in the area :)

What are some things that are always in your pantry/fridge?
Tortillas, Salsa, Eggs, Hacienda Tortilla Chips, Annie's Organic Mac and Cheese, Tuna, Rotel, Fat Free Refried Black Beans, Turkey Bacon and tons of Lean Meats and Broccoli in the freezer.

What are some things that are always on your grocery list?
    Milk, Eggs, Cheese.

What is your favorite season/holiday, in terms of food?
I love thanksgiving. I make a mean day after meal; Asiago Bagel with a little plain cream cheese, cranberry sauce and turkey, and left over sides :) When I worked retail I always brought this for lunch on Black Friday!

    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
I really want to learn more Asian cuisine.

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
I don't do recipes a ton so I'm not sure who I'd pick for this... I do like Liv's zucchini fries :)

You're on death row - what's your last meal?
Easy! Chipotle Burrito with Barbacoa, Hacienda Chips, El Magay Salsa and Roalitas cheese dip with rice and bean from Milagro!!!!!

It's totally a thing. it makes me crazy that Chipotle makes it a mandatory ingredient in their rice, but it does help me fight the temptation to get a pile of rice in my burrito bowl :-)

She's right...based on your genes, cilantro either tastes like soap or tastes lime/citrusy. Thank you sweet baby Jesus I'm in the latter, because I love Chipotle rice...

I'm making an at home Chipotle-style bowl today, but I will still include cilantro. I really wanted Chipotle but didn't want to pay for it. I'm off to the store now to buy avocados for guac!

ETA: I used to despise cilantro, but now I love it. I don't know how that works, given there's a solid love-hate relationship of the herb.

Let's Eat! : Oceana, I have been having facepalm moments every moning for the last two mornings when I wake up.  FI has been leaving extra early to work so by the time I have mental capcaity to ask he's gone.  After work my brain only registers "Lyn smash" as I rip into the floors and walls of the house.  As you can see brain functions are running at a low right now.  Hahaha, I will however write a note to myself on my phone and my hand to ask FI for it tonight.  Though warning there is A LOT of garlic in this receipe.  Cloves and cloves, but as the soup simmers the sharp taste is mellowed out.  Just warning you.  Also there is cheeeese in there, which I love.... cheese Gromit....

Um, putting 4-5 garlic cloves in a dish for what I consider a mild hint of garlic is, like, an everyday thing for me. I love tons and tons of garlic. AND CHEESE. NOM NOM NOM NOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.

Favorite thing(s) that your SO cooks?

Favorite way to cook (grilling, baking, etc.)?
I love grilled food, but I don't like cooking it.  I'm definitely a baker.

    Favorite cookbook(s)?
oh man...I can't remember what it's called, but it's a small handbook full of veggie recipes.  some of the best meals come out of that book.

Any food that you're a "snob" about (ie. it has to be a certain way, from a certain place, specific brand, etc)?
soda, actually, is the first thing that came to mind.  diet sodas all taste different, and I definitely have my favorites.

Where do you get your groceries? Do you shop around, or do you get everything in one spot?
in one spot usually...FI likes to get in, out, and done ASAP, and I don't like to shop alone.

hands down, thanksgiving.   I don't eat turkey, but everything else is to diiiiiiiie for.

    Recipe(s) you're dying to try?
I can't remember off the top of my head, but there are quite a few I saved on pinterest and can't wait to try

Knotties or bloggers with the best recipes?
hmm...well, so far I think I've stolen one from Liv's blog, and it was delicious.  breaded zucchini and honey mustard sauce...mmmm

You're on death row - what's your last meal?
can I just have a smorgasboard of my mother's home cooking?
