WR Poll: Engagement photos

Well, I've been posting every once in a while, but only just got engaged on Monday night. Yay!

Anyways, I was wondering if anyone had some input. FI and I are going to Paris for a weekend in December with his job, and I thought it would be a great excuse to get engagement photos taken when we're there.

I found a photographer in Paris that has gorgeous pictures, but as with all good photographers (and most things in Paris), it's rather expensive.

How much did you spend on engagement photos (if anything?).

If you want to elaborate: did you think it was worth it?

Re: WR Poll: Engagement photos

  • Yay!!  Congrats!! :D

Um, engagement photos in Paris?! HELL YEAH.  We didn't do any, though we always meant to while we were living in Italy.
  • We didn't have e-pics done, but I have to say, If we had a chance to get them done in Paris, I would have changed my tune.

Do you read enough French or does he speak enough English to make sure you FULLY understand the contract?

  • OOOOOOH I would definitely use the opportunity to do engagement photos in Paris - especially around Christmas time!

    And congrats!! :)

As far as what we paid... I voted $50-$200 but we didn't actually get e-photos done. H didn't think it was necessary, but the photographer gave me the same package price for my boudoir photos instead. They would have been more as a standalone but since we were also using her for the wedding, she cut us a deal.

    Good luck!
  • The photographers are a couple - an American man and a French woman. The website's entirely in English, and as many of their clients are international, I'm assuming the contract would also be in English.

If not, I have a problem, because my French is at level "schoolgirl" at best.

Thanks for the input - I'm leaning very much in favor, especially because it would be so fun to have "nice" photos from Paris...
  • Again, my only concern is that it's expensive. Like approx. $900... But that's 2,5 hours of photos, editing and all the digital rights to the pictures.

Haha, I think I just needed to hear that other thought it sounded fun.  I'll hold off for a bit to book and look over the financials :).

    Thanks for the congrats too!

  • well, factor in the "upcharge" for exchange rate and being in Paris.  So that $900 would be about $540 if you had them done in the states.

  • That price seems quite reasonable to me... but that said, we spent a grand total of $0 as we didn't have them done. I don't think many people here do have them done, actually. I only learnt about them from my travels on US based wedding websites.
  • I say go for it! I was lucky that my bestie is an amazing photog but her going rate is $250.00. I love our e-pics they make me feel prettyWink. All in all totally worth it.

  • Ours were included in our package, so I want to say around $400 or $500. If given the oportunity to get them done in Paris, I would absolutely jump on it
  • We got ours included in our wedding package.  For us it was totally worth it, because we actually didn't have that many pictures of us together before we did them.  We were really happy with the result and it was nice to have some beautiful photos in a more casual atmosphere.
  • we didnt do them, as i felt it was an unnecessary expense.  that said, it would be nice to have some photos of H and I, but again, i didnt feel the need to spend hundreds to have them.
  • We did them as part of our photography package.  If you do them separately, I think he charges $200 - $300, so that's what I picked in the poll.  But, if I could afford it, I'd totally do the ones in Paris, assuming it's an outdoor shoot at cool locations.

  • Congrats!  I got engaged this weekend too :)  I know nothing about the prices of engagement pics so I didn't answer the poll.  Happy planning xo

  • That's a situation you can't pass up. It would be TOTALLY worth $900, no question about it.
  • Ours were included in our pkg. But I think I would do it especially because it's in Paris! LUCKY!

  • $900 does seem like a lot of money, but it doesn't seem overpriced (does that make sense?).

Our photog charges $300 if you have booked a wedding with her, $500 if not.  Ours was technically included in our package, but I think these rates are pretty standard for Boston.

The engagement pics are *definitely* worth it!  I love ours, and we actually did 2 sessions.  It is just so nice to have more nice pics of us together than just our wedding pics.  If I had a chance to do them in Paris, I think I'd do it (although $900 is a lot of money...).  I'm assuming you'd get amazing photos including landmarks of Paris not just portraits in a non-descript background.  Afterall, if you don't know it is Paris, you may as well have them done here where it will probably be cheaper.
  • Is it $900 USD or 900 Euros?  That would be about $1150 USD.  If you can afford it, go for it.  Or maybe look some more to see if you can find something that is a lower price.

    TOTALLY! You are lucky!

I spent $50 on my e-pics. I only did them because I wanted them for STD postcards. & I got a good deal because the girl is also doing my wedding pics.
  • WE did them, the session was inlcuded in our package.  the disc cost $200
I thought they were unnecessary at first but am glad we have them now....it was a good and fun experience and the most va;uable part was getting to know our photographer BEFORE the wedding.
That said I am super happy to have the pics.
