When to book a photographer

How soon is too soon to book a photographer? Would it be crazy to do so in the next month or two for our august 2013 wedding?

Re: When to book a photographer

  • Not crazy at all. Really good photographers can book as far as three years in advance. Plus rates tend to increase annually, so you will most likely be saving yourself some money. If you find a photographer that you absolutely want, then I say book them as soon as you can so you do not miss out.
  • Not necessarily.  I started looking 9 months out and many of my first choices were already booked for my date.  I don't think a year out is crazy at all, especially in a major city where the popular wedding photographers book fast.
  • I am trying to book 15 months in advance and am finding that 1/2 of the weekends next APRIL are already taken by the photographer I want.

    Don't be shy.

I booked mine a year in advance and even with our photographer being a student she was already booked for the weekend before our date and the weekend of our original date choice. I say starting now is probably a good idea and definitely couldn't hurt!
  • I am October 2013 and i already booked mine.  I wouldn't wait if there is someone that you really want.
