Children at the reception (mine)

Not sure if this is the right forum and I apologize if it's not...

Ok this is my second marriage, the first time around we eloped so I am super excited to plan a wedding this time around.....

Now my question is, we have 5 kids between us and their all in the wedding. My ex husband who is on really good terms with me and my fiance is coming to the wedding as well.....Would it be bad to have my ex husband take the kids home after the ceremony? because we're not going to be able to tend to them really during the reception.

Re: Children at the reception (mine)

  • Post this on the Second Wedding board (in Special Wedding Topics). You'll get lots of responses from people married more than once.

  • I don't think that's not too much to ask for and I'm sure he'll be glad & understand to watch the kids.

Anyone, regardless of age, who is invited to the ceremony must also be invited to the reception. If you don't want kids at the reception for whatever reason, don't invite them to the ceremony. If you can't/won't supervise them during the reception, who is taking care of that during the ceremony? There is no difference in the two. Unless the children are all infants, they are able to entertain themselves.
  • I would think asking him would be fine. If my ex and I were on good terms and he was coming I would ask for him to take them. When he got married I offered to go pick them up after the reception. With mine I am just having my mom take them  home with her and I will be there the next day because we are doing a brunch the next day at my mom's  with OOT guests!!!
  • We have 3 kids between the two of us. No exs allowed at the wedding even though both of us are on fine terms. The children will have plenty to do with all the close family & friends who will be there to celebrate our wedding. Do you have a family member at the reception that could tend to them? Our oldest is 9 our youngest is 1 and after the reception they will be going home with grandparents.
