wedding dress dilemma

I am getting married on New Year's Eve and was having my dress custom made.  I wanted it to be short and fun and the original I picked out was very expensive.  To be honest I liked the original but not sure I loved it.  This is the 2nd time around for me and I think I dropped the ball in the dress department.  The dress does not really resemble the picture I gave the place but I do take part of the blame and obviously have to pay for it anyway.  Now I am out 1000 bucks and in scramble mode.  I found a very simple short wide dress from lord and taylor and the price is under 200 bucks...I really like this dress and wish I had gone with my initial instinct of just buying off the rack.  My work schedule is very hectic from March til  November so I am just now getting my act togehter regarding the dress.  Do I tell the place that I am not happy with the dress?  Is it okay to buy a wedding dress that is so inexpensive?  Ugh!

I would tell them you're not happy with the dress. Granted, if you've already paid for it, depending what their policy is, you might very well be out the 1K. Sell it on ebay, maybe.

And seriously, for  a dress you're going to wear once, I wouldn't buy the most expensive one anyway.

I think your first move is to let them know your concerns. Maybe it can be fixed to your liking.

hell yes it's OK to buy a dress that's so inexpensive!  Go for it.

And yes, I would tell the place you're not happy with their dress.  Especially if the dress doesn't resemble the picture you gave them.  Why do you deserve part of the blame? If you gave them a picture, the dress should have some resemblance.  I don't think I would pay that bill just yet.

Still, I'll need more details on the pic you gave them vs the dress they made to see if you really should pay the full amount, pay $0, or try to negotiate some sort of compromise.

    I won't tell if you won't.

Seriously, your wedding will still be valid even if your dress costs <$200.  Bad luck about the custom dress, but if it can't be altered to suit you, then maybe someone will buy it off you?  Criagslist has been a recurring topic around here lately.

Yes, you have to buy the most expensive dress ever in the whole history of the universe, or your wedding will be doomed. I hope you have your ship ready, because I hear the dresses are more expensive the further you get from this sun.

I had a 200 dollar wedding gown. No one would have guessed, or really cared. It was plain but I made a sash (profile pic) for a more unique and personal touch. That is a good thing to do if you don't think an off-the-rack is "special" enough.

I'd see about alterations to your custom dress, and let them know how you feel about how it compares to your expectation.

Can I ask why you feel you are partly to blame for the turnout on your custom dress?

I really did not investigate enough...first time I got married I spent a good amount of time unitl I found the right one...again my first instinct was to buy something off the rack...I am going to tell the store my concerns and see what happens...and ebay is a great idea...thanks.
