"Unconventional" venues in CT

I've just started looking at CT venues for my June/July 2012 wedding - I'm interested in hearing about some unconventional locations that might add a unique flair to my wedding (I don't want to get married at the typical wedding "hotspots"in CT - too predictable!)

I'm intersted in museums, theaters, etc....any suggestions from experienced brides would be helpful! :)

Where are you located or are you open to anywhere in CT?  If you're into the city view, The Bushnell in Hartford has GORGEOUS wedding set-ups...I've never seen it in person, but again - something "different".

If you're into water locations, you can't go wrong with Mystic Seaport.  You could do it in the aquarium or on the grounds of the Seaport at the Latitude 41* restaurant - they have the Boat Shed for more informal outdoor weddings, or the North Lawn and/or the River Room for more formal type affairs.  The whole Seaport itself is a museum and you can have your pictures with the light house and boats on the docks etc.

My sister got married at the New Britain Museum of Art in October and it was beautiful!  The museum's exclusive caterer, Jordan's, is well-known for delicious food and Maggie the coordinator helped my sister pull her wedding together in under 6 months.

Another great thing about the museum is the Walnut Park is just outside and it's a great place for pictures.  All in all, it was a great place for a wedding.

While our venue is considered a "wedding venue" it is rather unconventional.

The Martime Center in Norwalk is used quite often for unique weddings.

Have you looked into Mystic Art Association? It's pretty cool, but I think  is best for a small- maybe medium size

We got married at the Lounsbury House in Ridgefield.  It's a georgian mansion.  Absolutely gorgeous for beautiful unique pictures.

Check out the Carousel at Lighthouse Point in New Haven!

We were sold by the shoreline view, together with the fact the both the lighthouse and the (operating!) 1916 carousel are on the National Register of Historic Places.  Our guests loved it (especially the kiddos.)

Try the Society Room of Hartford...it is a "wedding place" but it is also a converted bank from the early 1900's and still has the vault and everything

we got married at a vineyard...we looked into a few of the CT vineyards and ended up choosing Haight Brown in Litchfield.  it's very unconventional...it lends itself best to a casual mix & mingle type event rather than a sit-down dinner/dance.

if you do want something more formal, check out Jonthan Edwards in North Stonington or Hopkins Vineyard in Warren.  good luck!

Thank you all for the responses! I love the idea of something along the shore/seaport, but then again, I also love the idea of a museum (especially an art museum)....I'll be checking out both types of venues. Appreciate the suggestions! :)

We are doing Foxwoods. I thought a casino would be very fun to keep the party going and have everyone stay over.

Waveny Park in New Canaan CT is so beautiful! I have also heard amazing things about the Barns at Wesleyan Hills!

I thought about Foxwoods or Mohegan! My FI loves the casino so I think it would be a blast. I went on the websites for Mohegan and Foxwoods but I really couldn't find much information about having my wedding there  - there was just information for corporate events and meetings. Are you having your wedding right in the casino?
