Glasses on wedding day?

My glasses are cute, but not really cute enough to wear on my wedding day. I am far sided(not that would mean anything unless you know a little about the eyesSmile.) I can see with my glasses on, just not great. If I don't wear glasses for a few hours, one eye starts to slightly drift. Most people don't notice, but close up camera shots will show it. It's one of the those things maybe a really picky person would notice, and of course, I notice.
So should I...
a) go without glasses the whole night?
b.) get fitted for contacts?
Does anyone know a*cheaper*place to get into contacts? I used to work in optical, so I know how much money they can be. I have worn them before years ago, just for a little while. My insurance already took care of my glasses this year, so I have no contact benefits left. Just considering my options.

Any other brides having this issue? For the record, I think some brides pull off glasses and gown very well.

  • Order your contacts online (ie lens.com or visiondirect) instead of buying them at the optomotrist's office.  I get 6 months for about $100 total instead of over $150 at the office.

  • ditto pp!

though - my FI wants to wear contacts and i wish he wouldnt.  he just wont look the same!!!

  • if you haven't been fitted or anything and will need an appointment - I would try Walmart or Costco.  I have been calling around to get my mom an appointment and they were the cheapest by far.

  • When is your wedding? Make sure you're used to contacts well before your wedding! You don't want watery eyes from them, or to be itchy!

My FH wears glasses and I"m sure he'll wear them for the wedding. I love how he looks with his glasses, and I'm sure your FH feels the same about you either way.

Sorry, I just had to laugh about this one!

If you wear your glasses everyday, I think you should wear them on your wedding day too.  I never understand people who want to get rid of pieces of themselves for their wedding day.

  • I wear glasses every day.  But I am near-sighted instead.  But either way, I have to have them to see and I can't wear contacts.  So, I got new wedding glasses.

With my insurnace, I can get a new pair every year, and so I went in February and got them.  I am not going to wear them until the wedding though, unless of course something happens to my current ones.  Mine new ones are black, have a very light lilac shade on the inside of the frames, and have a little (seriously little) rhinestone bow on the sides of the arms of the frames.

If you don't want to go the contacts route, you might check out http://www.zennioptical.com/home.php

    Good luck!

  • I think it's just a personal preference. Glasses can be cute on the wedding day. I debated myself on whether I wanted to wear my glasses or get contacts, but I decided on contacts.

  • Don't you just get a trial pair when you get fitted for contacts?  You have to pay for the exam, but that should include one free pair.  I'm going in to the optometrist about a week before the wedding to get my contacts, and I'm pretty sure he's just going to give me a trial pair and a prescription, which I'll fill after the wedding.  If you're not happy with your frames (I'm currently not), then that might be a good option.

This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
