Today is a banner day.

I bought my first anti-wrinkle lotion.  I'm half ashamed, half proud.  I swore a long time ago that I would never let my skin end up like my mom's.

So, at what did you/will you work hard at trying to prevent wrinkles?

Re: Today is a banner day.

  • I lotion and sunscreen myself like I'm paid to do it. My mom doesn't have TERRIBLE skin, but she looks her age and asks me how to get hers as nice as mine.

I tell her to hop into her Delorean, head back to the 60s and start staying out of the sun.

  • Quit smoking. Wear sunscreen. The moisturizer I use has sunscreen in it though. I've always been a tanner (outdoor) in the summer, and I've got to stop doing that. I tan so easily though, and I look so much better with color. But I know it's terrible for me.

  • Oh, and in addition to the sun screen, I just don't GO in the sun. I don't spend extended time outdoors with my skin exposed.

  • I use anti-wrinkle moisturizer, now that I'm *gasp* over 30.  I've always worn sunscreen on my face.  My older friends keep advising me to start putting it in my cleavage so I don't get what they call 'the peach pit'.  My mom looks 10 years younger than she is, so I hope good genetics helps too.

  • I have a fairly regular skin routine that I use already in addition to suncreen and not staying out in the sun all the time.  I've never got tanning and because I'm fair skinned, I never lay out either.

I don't have any anti-wrinkle cream specifically but I might start buying it in my 30s.  I dunno.

  • My mom's skin looks great though. She used to have some darker colored blotchiness, and she assumed it was because she spent tons of time in the sun. Turned out it was hormonal, and happening because of menopause. The blotchiness eventually went away after her body adjusted.

  • See, I can't have sunscreen on my face or lips- I have some sort of weird allergy to it there.  I can handle it if it's in foundation, but not just sunscreen or lotion with sunscreen in it.

Hmm.  Good call about the cleavage thing.  My mom's got that.  And yeah, when I go out in the sun, I'm screened up.

TJ, if I lived in Phoenix, there's no fing way I'd go outside either. haha
  • Okay, I guess I am the old lady.  I use oil to cleanse my face and neck.  It's a mix of castor oil and extra virgin olive oil.  I don't use any moisturize and I use an Olay eye cream around my eyes twice a day.  That is it.  I am 32 and don't have any wrinkles and I have awesome skin.  My brother who is 4 years younger than me, looks older than me because he has tons of wrinkles!

I've always avoided spending TOO much time in the sun because I have mild PMLE and it makes my skin feel bad and rashy to spend much time outside. That was on the east coast.

Here in Phoenix, I just don't come outsise the house between 10 and 2. It's just too strong. I feel like I'd cook out there. With crispy skin. Immediately. It's not just the heat, the sun feels like you could reach up and touch it.

Holy crap.  I think my skin would revolt on me if I did that.  I'm still breaking out (WTF IS THAT?!) and I can't imagine what putting oil on it would do.

Actually the oil cleans the skin.  People with acne use it to stop the acne, and it works for them.

This. I've been wearing moisturizer with sunscreen since I was 26. I wish I started sooner. I might move to the "anti-wrinkle" stuff around 30. I know someone in her late 40s who used to use her mom's wrinkle cream as a kid (put it on her face and hands) and she looks like she's 25. She swears it's because she started early, though I don't know if I believe that.

  • I've been using moisturizer since I was a teenager, especially around my eyes. My mother is 70 and looks fantastic. Unfortunately I don't think I'll fare as well as she has since I smoked for many years and spent a lot of time in the sun.

At 46 I've got some wrinkles around the eyes and I've noticed that my cleavage and neck are starting to look "old." On the whole, though, most people seem to think DH and I are in our early 30s so I can't complain too much (the woman we bought our house from was thrilled that a "nice young couple" was buying it Wink).
  • i know a girl that uses vitamin e oil on her skin every night and she has probably the nicest skin i have ever seen.

i think it would make me break out like crazy.
  • My grandmother (dad's mom) had such gorgeous skin, even when she died.  It actually was used for donation (though that might gross some of you out).  I'm proud she was able to help someone.

Hm.  I might have to look into the oil cleanse, but I'll be honest, it freaks me out. :) I think it's a hormonal thing because instead of just being minor breakouts on the surface, they became cystic when I started BCP.  We're working through that situation.
  • I wish I hadn't ever smoked and that I had been more careful in the sun in my 20s because I am paying for it now and I am only 31.  My wrinkles aren't brutal but you can tell I have skin damage, or at least I can.

I use what I refer to as 'old lady' cream now...(it smells different than regular stuff), but the only reason why I use it is because about a year after using accutane for cystic acne (at 29 years of age!) my skin on my cheeks is so dry that I have to use it. I use the anti-aging stuff...by Boots (British I believe)...I started about 10 days ago with this stuff (used Vichy before, French, also good but twice the price)...I think my skin looks better but who knows, I have a scar on my face that I find distracting, I can't really see past it yet (it is less than a year old).

I don't know if I could do the oil routine, but I do wonder what it would do for my skin...
  • When I was 12, I read an article in Vogue about the top 10 things that women do that age their skin. I could never break those habits now at 23, but I was able to stop doing them all then! Several were sipping through straws, resting your face on your hand, touching your face unnecessarily, sleeping on your stomach, etc.

I know it sounds crazy, but I think it's made a difference. I also bought my first eye cream at 19 and use sunscreen EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. Skin cancer runs in my family, so that was my primary motivation, but seeing the difference has been crazy.  In general, I take really good care of my skin. I never go to bed without washing my face with my clairsonic, using eye makeup remover, blemish cream, and a deep moisturizer on my cheeks.
  • I have worn daily facial moisturizer with sunscreen with SPF since I was about 12.  I always wear sunblock.  Everyone has made fun of me for years, since I was 8 or 9 about how white I am, I decided to own it and I'm glad I went with that.

I have used eye cream since I was maybe 22.

I also read an article at a young age like Polichk and I think it has made a difference in my skin, although my mom has good skin as well.  I have passed all my good tips on to my sister who is 12 years younger then me.
