[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Don't take that money, bullied bus lady : But what if kids treated you this way? Wouldn't you be able to discipline them? I just wonder what kind of power she has with discipline. I'm not saying she should have punched them in their jaw (well she should have, but that is besides the point) but from what I saw she just sat there and took it, and never even told them to stop? I didn't watch the entire video so I could be wrong, but I am just wondering if she is not allowed to discipline them or just didn't. Did she end up reporting them to the school? Were they suspended?

I don't know all of those answers, but I can tell you that if a kid said any of those things to me, I'd have to follow protocol (or risk losing my own job). Protocol here would be to write them up and notify the administration. Discipline is on them and totally at their discretion.

For instance, last year a kid told a teacher to "Fvck off." She followed protocol. Nothing happened. No detention, no suspension, etc (because of parent issues). There's not much you can do in that situation. She could tell a kid to stay for a detention of her own, btu then what if he doesn't show? What if he does and says she touched or hit him? We rely pretty heavily on admin support and, unfortunately, a lot of administrators would rather label the adult as a "complainer" or troublemaker than deal with parents who have far more sway.
• I never had a bus monitor. I've never even heard of it until now.

To those who don't think she should keep it- what do you think should happen to that money? I'm just curious.

• I never had a school bus monitor pixie. But my bus driver was pretty cool. His young daughters rode our bus, as well as his son who was a year younger than me. The kid pinched my ass when I was on my way off the bus one day, and my bus driver saw him do it. Lol, it took him an extra minute or two for him to drive out of our yard because he was reaming the kid's ass. Awesome

Back then (not that youre super old or anything) I can see that happening. Kids get away with everything now a days though.

[QUOTE]I think she should be able to whatever the fvck she wants with the money. I also thought it was weird that she allowed them to do that and she didn't get anyone else (like the bus driver) involved, but I probably am not understanding this issue very well.

This was also my question. Many of bus drivers have pulled over and put the kids in line.

• Hmm I wonder if bus monitors are some new thing because kids are worse now. Maybe they should get some huge bouncer looking dudes to ride the bus.

• We have monitors in my county. They make the same pay as me (tech. support) and work 3 hours a day. That being said, I would not switch jobs with them in a million years.

[QUOTE]I hear you, KD. And, TBH, it makes me more mad about the whole situation (not her part). I know quite a few people who've been treated with an "they're just kids, it's your fault for not managing them" attitude over kids throwing things at them, telling them "Fvck off," etc. In this line of work, you always need to cover your back because administrators don't want to deal with parents. Since when are kids always innocent? TBH, I doubt the bus monitor's job is to break up fights or anything. Legally (at least here), we're advised to NEVER touch kids, no matter what is happening. That's under the umbrella of administration. She'd probably be on the bus to make sure the kids were sitting down and not doing drugs so the bus driver could focus on the road and then taking down the names of wrongdoers.

Probably right around the same time they started banning failing grades.
• Omg I can't imagine telling a teacher to fuckoff.

When I was in 7th grade shan, my class was horrible to my English teacher. The section before my class period was really really bad, lol. My whole grade would tease her and talk back to her. A kid in my section pulled his t-shirt up over his head, stuck his arms up and told her he was "Cornholio!" and then when she told him to stop he yelled "ARE YOU THREATENING ME!!" Another kid in my class opened a big window and pulled a shade over it - it was a window she always leaned against. She just about fell out the window. The last straw was one day when she sent a kid to the office and told the class that if anyone else wanted to go they were welcome to, and they all got up and left. That happened in the section before me so then random teachers were filling her slots all day. Poor woman had a nervous breakdown and every class I was in the rest of the day got a lecture. I can't remember who all got punished for it. But she didn't come back to school for a week.

Anyway. SEE PEOPLE. Kids are awful, awful little wretchy douche kabobs.

[QUOTE]So taking the $ amount out of the equation, what is the cut off of accepting a nice gesture? If someone baked her a basket of muffins because they felt bad for her situation, is that ok? If a handful of her neighbors pitched in and got her a massage so she could relax, would that be acceptable? If I wanted to make a donation cash/gift/food etc to a person in my community that had gone through a traumatic experience, I'd be pissed if people tried to shame them for accepting my gift under the claim that "well other people have shitty lives, too."

My head reels at the fact that so many people cant make ends meet, but so many people donated to this it raised almost $600 thousand dollars. Just blows my mind.

Dont get me started! THIS right here is why we have a lot of the issues we have in schools. Its funny we are taught as parents to reward good behavior, and discipline but our own schools dont. So add that with a parent who wont, what do you have?

• I swear kids are doing more and more at younger ages. It is depressing.

In my perfect world, the bus would have been stopped until the parents were able to come get their kids. And they would have permanently been kicked off the buses.

We had some rowdy kids on our bus, but our busdriver put the fear of God into us. She wasn't a particularly large or scary woman if you walked past her on the street, but she had a way of slamming on the brakes as she pulled over, turning off the engine, and reaming you out if you stepped a toe out of line. And every single time we deserved it.

It's not even the kids that suck though. It's the parents that teach them how to suck. (Okay that sounded horrible, but you know what I mean). No kid is going to think it's okay to whine about being disciplined unless their parent either coddles the kid or yells at the person discilining him/her. It's bad parenting IMO, not the kids themselves. Pretty sure I've told this story on here before, so sorry for the repeat. When I was student teaching, I caught a girl cheating. Her mom was a counselor at the school and flipped her shite at me and threatened me to back down. I wasn't going to but more than one teacher told me to be careful because moving forward could get me blacklisted for teaching jobs. Apparently this isn't the first time a teacher has caught her precious daughter cheating. All it took was the first time of her getting the teacher put on probaation via the school board for no teachers to ever do it again. It still pisses me off to this day.
