Pocketfold postage

Do you have to pay extra when mailing a pocketfold invite because of the weight?  I'm looking at  an A7 size with no ribbon or anything so it's not bulky, just somewhat heavy.  How much do you think postage would cost?

Obviously, I'll weigh it first but I haven't ordered yet and I'm trying to estimate costs.

Re: Pocketfold postage

  • Sometimes.  By weight, mine required $0.61 postage.  However, because they were very stiff and a smidge fat in the center, where the pocketfold overlaps and the belly band goes around, they wouldn't fit through the machine & had to be hand cancelled.  That cost an extra $0.44.  I paid it gladly, and wouldn't have done anything different.

  • My pocketfolds cost $1.39 each to mail, because they were rigid and like pps, couldn't be machine fed.  I'm not sure why mine were so much more expensive to mail than others because by weight they too were only $0.61.  But I was told by the postmasters that they counted as parcels and not as letters anymore, and therefore cost $0.78 more.

  • Kiki, it's probably overall measurements.  From your pics, I think yours were bigger than mine (I had 5x7's).

Mine were 5 x 7 signature style pocketfolds too, from Cards and Pockets.  The envelopes were a bit puffy when filled, but no larger.

I went to three different post offices to determine postage (I didn't believe the clerk at the first PO so I went to another and had them check, and then got it verified a third time when I finally mailed them at yet a different PO).  No idea why they cost that much, but apparently all the clerks got the same memo.  *shrug* :)

  • Do you just go up to the clerk and ask for hand canceling?  I'm annoyed because I took the envelope to the PO today and she just said .61 and after reading posts, I should have been more diligent and mentioned the machine part.

So now I'm going to have to pay extra because the pocketfolds are super rigid.
  • slbriz, I went to weigh my proof the other day and I specifically asked about the machine and showed him how I tried to bend it.  I said will this go in the machine and he said sure, it's .61 cents. So, maybe it just depends on the post office.
  • haha, squirrly!  If I had figured all of this out with enough lead time, maybe I would have done that.  I just took it on the chin and paid the postage.  :)  All invites are out and I've already started getting responses back --- whee!  Sounds like they traveled well too!

Thanks for all your attempts at trouble-shooting!
