Cost of Wedding Flowers

Sooo I met with a potential florist for a free consultation, and I LOVED her.  She got all my ideas, had great suggestions, and made me really excited for what my ceremony/reception could be like.  I got the estimate back a few days later (and while I feel the individual prices don't seem bad- the total seems daunting.  I think my fiance almost choked when I told him.  We are having just over 200 people, and have a large bridal party (7 girls, 10 guys) - and the estimate was $4500.  That included all setup and teardown though.  Thoughts?  Is this crazy?  I had hoped to only spend $3K, but since they will do all the setup/decor stuff I was thinking perhaps we could swing this (with some minor changes to hopefully bring the total down) by not hiring a day of coordinator.  Our venue will provide a venue coordinator (I know that's not the same).  Any advice on flower costs, not hiring planners, etc would be greatly appreciated!   thanks :)

Depending on what type of flowers you chose, that seems reasonable with the number of people in your bridal party and the number of tables you will have. We had just over 100 people, 6 on each side for the bridal party, 11 tables, sweetheart table, placecard and cake table, ceremony and cocktail hour decor, set up and breakdown, and a lot of rented vases, and it came to around 2.5K. It could have been a lot less, but I'm in love with calla lilies and orchids, so there were a lot of expensive flowers in the package.

I also did not have a day of coordinator. My venue had a venue coordinator and a banquet coordinator who kept everything moving smoothly the day of. They got us where we needed to be when we needed to be there. Between them and the florist, everything was perfectly set up.

thanks, that's definitely helpful on the flower cost!  I didn't think anything I had picked was too pricy.  I think it's just the volume we need.  Now if only I could convince my fiance it's not that bad! ha!

good to know about the venue coordinator too.  here's hoping we have a similar experience! :)

Prices can really vary by florist, but you have to comparre apples to apples.  Prices can really vary by the flowers you choose to use as well.  My florist helped me lower my costs buy using flowers that resembled each other, but one cost less than the other.  I had 18 tables - high and low -  and 8 bridemaids.  I had a placecard table arrangement, sweetheart table flowers, and cocktail arrangements.  I also had ceremony flowers and aisle decorations.  I got a lot of flowers for the money, set-up, & delivery and I was closer to 3K with my florist - about 1K less than another florist in a shop.  .Leslie works out of her home so her overhead is less.   She really had some very creative ways to do things and saved me a lot of money.  We met for 3 1/2 flowers to design my wedding and she spent tons of time with me on line.  Check out her website and blog to see her work.  I highly recommend her. whimsicalwelcomes. com   I also didn't have a wedding coordinator.  Everything ran really smoothly because I trusted my vendors.  My MoH took care of anything that needed taking care of that day - which wasn't much.   She was great!

all depends on your type of flowers/season etc.

we had a huge BP (9 BMs, 10 GM, 4 FG and 2 RB) and 270 people. we used hydrangeas and roses for bouquets/bouts and floating orchids for centerpieces and we paid $2500.
