Garlands for the church?

Our church is a very traditional Lutheran church with dark wood pews, stained glass windows and a beautiful organ - built in 1890. We went to the church this week and it has evergreen garlands on the balcony and choir booth for Christmas and looks really great. We thought we could do similar garlands for our purple and ivory vintage-inspired June wedding.

I am hesitant to do fake flower garlands because they can look obviously fake and plastic. What do you all think of garlands like these for the setting? Are they formal enough? Are they attractive? Do you have recommendations for classy and convincing artificial flower garlands?

Re: Garlands for the church?

  • I personally don't care for any of them. But that is just my opinion.

We just did simple greenery for the aisle/pew decorations. I have also seen people do the baskets with flowers in them, or even simple pomanders hanging off of the pew. I would definitely check out some of the ladies' married bios for ideas as well as google.
  • Thanks for the input! Unfortunately, we can't do pew adornments because the aisle is pretty narrow, aside from some ribbon or tulle drapped on the family rows.

What kind of greenery did you use?

  • Yes, tulle was the other thing I was trying to think of when I responded earlier. It is really cheap and easy to use. I like the tulle over the pics in your post.

As far as the greenery we used, gosh, I don't know what it was called. It was definitely an evergreen of somesort. I really don't remember it smelling like Christmas or winter or anything since we had  a June wedding. You could definitely ask your florist about it and if you need to show her the pics in my bio. I just wish I would have tied a colored bow or ribbon on it for a bit more color, but we were married and had a great wedding day, so that was all that mattered.
  • i personally love the the last two etsy examples. The thing with them however are they are pretty very quirky and don't say formal. They would be great for a casual wedding because they are so untraditional.

If you are hooked on garlands im sure you could do some research/look around for what florists will offer you for garlands on the cheap.
  • I got 14, seven foot strands of preserved boxwood on the NYC board from a bride who paid $1,000 for them and just wanted them out of their apartment.  A close relative used them for her wedding.

Try searching the boards and Trash Treasure board on the Nest, never know what you may find.
  • I like the berry garland the best!
