New to Cincy/NKY

Hello all! I've been lurking for awhile and decided to say hi. I'm not engaged yet so I spend most of my Knot time over on NE(Y). I will be moving to the area soon to live with my BF. At this point I spend more than 50% of my time here. I'm moving from a big city, but grew up in the country. I'm having a difficult time re-adjusting to Midwestern living (although I'm enjoying the friendly folks around here).

So can you help out a new gal and share what you do for fun around here? We live on the Kentucky side of the river but I'm not afraid to cross a bridge now and then! How about:

1. Your favorite restaurant
2. Best Saturday night fun spot
3. Good running or biking trail / route (or running club!)
4. Best mall or shopping area in Cincy/NKY
5. Anything else I should know about finding fun in the area!

Thanks for any thoughts! I appreciate it.

Hi paintgirl...welcome to the board and to NKY! I may not be much help here since all of my "going out" days are far behind me. I'm more comfortable now hanging out w/ FI and friends at someone's house....but I will try to help! Wink

    1. Your favorite restaurant - Brio's on the Levee; Benihana's downtown; Nada downtown; Rio Grande Newport (if you can't tell I love to eat!!!!)
    2. Best Saturday night fun spot - I don't go out much anymore but I've had fun at Cadillac Ranch/ Southgate House (depends on the live band)/Hofbrauhaus House/Mt.Adams...it really depends on what you're into
    3. Good running or biking trail / route (or running club!) - I don't run and I bike in my neighborhood
    4. Best mall or shopping area in Cincy/NKY - Kenwood or Rookwood...but I love Florence Mall's Forever 21!
    5. Anything else I should know about finding fun in the area! There is a lot to do, but I've lived here my whole life so I find it hard to find new & exciting stuff to do....

    HTH!

    Good luck on the move!!

Econner - Thanks for the restaurant recommendations! LOL - we're in the same boat on "going out". My BF and I aren't exactly spring chickens so we tend to stay home. We're more of the quiet bar, maybe good live music type than the get drunk enough to puke and dance like crazies type. Nothing wrong with that second type - it just takes us too long to recover these days! :)  Thanks again! I've been wanting to try Nada!

Welcome to the board! You came to the right spot for help!

    1. Your favorite restaurant - Benihanna's is amazing, Longhorn is our cheaper choice!, Gold Star, Jimmy Johns, Rio Grande is great, Don Pablos, Deweys
    2. Best Saturday night fun spot - We don't do much of the beer scene so we tend to hit up the Levee for a movie, go to a yummy dinner or hang out with friends.
    3. Good running or biking trail / route (or running club!) - Eastfork in Ohio, Lunken Airport, I live in KY and alot of people just run in our subdivisions and such. Or if your in the city I know alot of people just run around town.
    4. Best mall or shopping area in Cincy/NKY - Kenwood is probably the best mall, Florence is great if your going in for something certain or in general. Kenwood is good for shopping sprees, changing up the routine or looking for something spicy!
    5. Anything else I should know about finding fun in the area! There is alot to do really, Perfect North, Movies, Lazer Tag, In door go Karting, casinos, in door rock climbing, great shopping places like crestview town center, rookwood, vineyards in KY. After being here for 23 years it seems boring but we always find something to do!

    Enjoy NKY!

Thank you! Where is the indoor rock climbing? That could be fun! I've done some outdoor and it was great.

    1. Your favorite restaurant - I am a food snob, and have lots of favorites - we eat at Shanghai Mamas for noodles (chinese type food) its on 6th street downtown. . We eat at Take the Cake in Northside for lunch or brunch, we eat places like Zola in Covington, we like Cilantro in Clifton, Ambar Indian in Clifton, as well as nicer places like, The Palace, Daveeds, Bella Luna,
If you are looking for something specific like pizza we love Newport Pizza company and love Keystone Bar and grill for bar food.
    2. Best Saturday night fun spot = We are not huge for going out, but there are some fun spots downtown. We like Mynt, Mainstay Rock bar, Tina's to just sit and have a few beers, FB's is nice, as well as Palamino (they have all day happy hour)
    3. Good running or biking trail / route (or running club!) - I usually run or walk at Lunken Airport. Great path that isnt always easy.
    4. Best mall or shopping area in Cincy/NKY - I shop at Rookwood, Kenwood, and Crestview hills. Rookwood and Crestview are very similar, Kenwood has almost everything you would need in a small area.
    5. Anything else I should know about finding fun in the area - There is always something going on in Cincy - spring summer and fall have lots of festivals with winter having lots of shows (car shows, boat, golf etc.) you can always catch a show (there are tons of small theaters in Cincinnati not just the big broadway shows.
    feel free to ask anytime!

Thanks kelklump! You have some of the coolest wedding photos I have ever seen!

Where's the best place to find info on festivals, car shows, live theatre, etc? Does the Cincy paper have a decent weekly entertainment section? Or is there a good online resource?

Thanks again everyone! I truly appreciate it. Cinci is a lovely city and I want to get the most out of it!

Thank god someone finally mentioned Ambar, kelklump.  I was beginning to doubt that anyone here was actually from Cincinnati. [;)]
