What one item?

So as we get closer to the day and everything is finalized, and the budget won't stretch a bit more, what one item did you really want that you just couldn't afford or couldn't make work?

For me, I really wanted a photo booth, and I thought our friends would go nuts with it, but I just couldn't work it into the budget. Our photog will take some more fun photos, but it won't be the same.

Re: What one item?

  • I also wanted a photo booth, but it just wasn't in the budget.
  • Open bar.  We just cannot make it happen.  The bar will be completely open for 2 hours during the cocktail hours but after that cash.

  • I wanted so many things lol. One thing was nicer, better flowers, but I am sure my flowers will be beautiful

  • I would've preferred to do two trolleys instead of one so I wasn't working so hard on transportation schedules.

    FI wanted a raw bar.

  • Photobooooothhh. Those things are awesome!

  • I looked into doing a photo booth, looked really fun, but like you, way out of budget, then I wanted to do a trolly photo shoot day of wedding, but that was also out of budget.

  • Definitely with you on the photobooth. They're so expensive though!

I love my puppy ... and my husband, I swear!
  • for me its uplighting.  i just started to think about how great it would make the room look and I found a great DIY on how to do it, but there's no time.  Oh, and also the awesome cool lighted cake stand was something I wanted to do, but didn't realize how expensive those supplies are, so I'll settle for the norm.

  • I really wanted a candy bar...but was surprised to find out how much candy you actually need to have one! Just cant justify spending 500+ on candy when we could use that money on the honeymoon :)

I'm DIYing my lighted cake stand.  It won't cost me very much.  You can get a custom sized plexi glass from Lowe's and put 9 square vases (you can get for cheap from the Dollar Tree) and buy some floralytes from save-on-crafts and you have a lighted cake stand!!  Mine's going to be similar to this:

  • I'm very happy with how we budgeted things. I would have liked to upgrade the bar, but in the end it probably isn't necessary anyway...you can get drunk on almost anything!
  • A late night mashed potato or french fry bar.
I might still look into it... but I doubt it'll happen.

  • I can honestly say that we've been able to make everything that's important to us happen (so far).  With one small exception, FI wanted prime rib, but it just wasn't in the cards.  But we're still having steak.

FI and I wanted a small wedding. We got a little wrapped up in the excitement of being engaged, planning, etc, and wound up having something bigger than we initially wanted.  While I'm looking forward to seeing friends and family all together to celebrate with us, the past few weeks I've been REALLY wishing we had stuck to our guns and gone with what we wanted.

  • Ummm, I have a list...
    Different reception location
    Chair covers or different chairs
    Photobooth
    Flowers for the centerpieces
Trolley instead of a Limo bus

I really have cut back on a lot of the things I originally planned.

  • I would've liked chiviari chairs. It's a pretty insignificant item, but I just think they would have looked better.

For you girls who wanted photobooths - what about making your own?  That's what we're doing.  We bought fabric for a backdrop, and tons of props.  My photographer is taking 1 hour during the wedding to take the photos and they'll be available (free of charge) on her website after the wedding for guests to save.  Most of our friends use digital pics anyways, so they'll just save the picture to their computer for FB or whatever, or can get them printed through a photo site.

The "fake" photobooth cost us around $40 for supplies.
  • I wish we could do open bar all night. Our venue doesn't allow us to use kegs which makes having an open bar very difficult for us.

  • For the amount of guests we have Im pretty content with everything! I would love to have our pics done at a differnet location tho. but it's 45 min away from our venue and there is no way time wise we can fit it in :-(
  • I would have liked to have an open bar. We are doing free beer, wine, and a signiture drink. I think people will still be satisfied though.

  • I have several things I would have liked for my dream wedding, but it just wasn't worth going into debt for.

But I would love nicer centerpieces, more flowers, uplighting, and a open premium bar.

  • It would have been to have the wedding and reception at a rooftop garden at a hotel downtown.  I couldn't justify the pricetag for the location and the food!  Then I would have been able to have the pictures of the skyline like I wanted.

But its in the suburbs now, no chance of taking the pictures downtown.  It will still be beautiful, its just that we live downtown so it would reflect us a little more.

    THIS.
I'm happy that FI and I agreed to not go into debt or taking a loan out for our wedding. Yes, I've used my credit card for some small purchases but at least we won't be paying it off years later.

  • For me, it's been a trolley and uplighting. Probably the trolley because it's going to be so bright in our venue until around 9, and it seems silly to pay for something that only looks good for a couple hours.

FI would definitely pick a cigar bar.

I am using a plexiglass circe that my uncle had cut at Lowes and my aunt uses under her cakes for the "lighted' cake stand option.
