Do HE washers not take vinegar?

There's some new HE washer cleaner from Tide. I guess people get weird smells in their washers? Why can't you just use white vinegar?

I mean, I applaud Tide for their capitalism, but really, people.

    I don't see why you couldn't.  They're just water savers, that's all.

Is it true that they're extra prone to mold?  Is it because people don't leave the door open when they're done, or is it some kind of design flaw?

It took me forever to train DH to leave our old-fashioned top-loading washing machine open.

We leave our washer door open, so it can dry out, to avoid being smelly.

I've never owned a washer in a climate that I needed to worry about it. We don't get mold here, though occasionally if I leave wet clothes in the washer for more than a day, they can smell a little musty. I just re-run the washer, and the clothes are fine.

I always left the top up on my top-loader because I'd toss things in as I dirtied them, just like a dishwasher.

Oops.  I shoudl leave mine open from now on.  Yes, they have more rubber parts, which makes them prone to mold and other smelly issues.  ha.

I probably should leave mine open, since the washer and dryer are in an outside closet off our porch.

I can't leave things in there very long, otherwise they will smell like mildew and they need to be washed again.

I've never had a problem with it getting smelly because the door is closed, but when I do laundry, I almost always end with a bleach load.  But the laundry does spoil faster than in my old top loader.  And it doesn't seem to help to just wash them again.  I have to dry them, then wash them again.

Vinegar, and likely the Tide product, is a washing machine douche.  They should market it that way.

Nicole - you have reached your MM tipping point. If you all of a sudden feel the need to wear pantyhose, you need to take the DVD out of the machine, and step away.

I've never left my washer open - I'd end up dumping clothes on a cat.
