mother of the bride

can the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom have similiar color schemes? for some reason we have both chosen purple. my dress(mother of the bride) is a purplish gray (called wedgewood blue for some reason) and the mother of the groom's gown is eggplant.  I have no real problem with it but I want to make sure it looks ok especially in pictures.  Any thoughts?

  • I'm a MOB too.  You don't have to coordinate, match, etc.  Your dresses sound great.  Wearing what makes each of you feel beautiful is what matters.
  • I think what you have picked sounds lovely.  I always like it when the mothers wear different colors from the same pallette.

Yup!  Moms don't need to match, coordinate, contrast, compliment, correlate, correspond, etc.  It's ok if you do, but there is no need to be concerned at all about this.
  • At my nephews wedding, my sister-in-law and the MOB both wore champagne colored dresses.  I think people paid more attention to the style of the dresses than color.   Both looked amazing as they both loved their dresses and it was reflected in their faces.

As an aside, when my daughter married, I think the MOB and the MOG were in a total of 4 pictures together (out of over 2000 professional photos taken).  It really is a non-issue.
