What does the "M" mean?

Ok, stupid question.
Every response card/RSVP example I've seen has a "M" at the beginning of the line where people sign their name.
What does it mean?  haha.

Re: What does the "M" mean?

  • It is for the person to fill in Mr or Mrs or Miss or Ms depending on their relationship status.

PS: No question is a stupid question.

How do I kick out my bridesmaid from the bridal party for not being able to afford the $500 dress I picked out for her?

Anyway, yeah, having the M there looks cleaner than listing the options of Mrs, Mr, Ms, Miss or what ever...

  • since my name begins with an 'M' I always just used it for writing my name...because I'm a smart aleck. : )
  • I never knew this either! I got it on one invite and crossed it out HAHAHA! Good to know. I think I'm goign to leave it off mine since I think it's weird?

  • Since my name starts with an M as well my first instinct has always been to just start writing my name... :)

  • I always wondered what Dr.'s are supposed to do with that line.
  • Jackie... I agree with you! But Sherica's response clarifies what the history of it is...

I work with a lot of Doctors... so we are not using the M... We are actually printing all of their names in this beautiful font I was told about... (Aquaelle) And I am putting the Mr. Mrs. Miss or Dr. in front of their names and they just have to check if they are attending or not...

  • I was wondering what it meant myself. Never think a question is stupid, b/c as you see a lot of other people did not know what it meant either. I didn't know what r.s.v.p stood for either...
  • Ladies. some of your respones were too funny!  I really like those of you who use the M as the first letter of your name! lol I am not going to use the M on our cards.  Nobody ever uses it.  We aren't going with that formal of a route anyway.
1st pic of us together. Apparently I thought something was funny.

  • That font "aquaelle" is really beautiful!

We actually had everyone's names printed on their response cards to avoid anyone RSVPing for people who weren't invited. They said:

    Mr. John Doe
    ___ Will be attending
___ Regretfully, will be unable to attend

    Mrs. Jane Doe
    ___ Will be attending
___ Regretfully, will be unable to attend

    Children attending:

    __ Jane
    __ Jen

We didn't have any problems with random people ebing written into the response card!
  • good to know i wasnt the only that didnt know what it meant. lol
