Set me straight...flowers!

Ok ladies, I'm summoning your creative juices.  Apologies in advance for the SUPER LONG POST (and sorry some photo links aren't working). Let me start with what I'm trying to achieve...

- I'd like everyone to look sort of unified. Either color, flower, style, something.
- I'd like for some people to stand out more.  Groom. Moms. Dads.
- Our WP: MOH = my sister.  BM = his brother. No one else
- There's also the mess of FI's brother's wife, and their 2 boys.  They're not WP really, but they'll be walking in with BM at the beginning, so I'd like to acknowledge them.
- Wedding color is yellow

Groom's bout (gray pinstripe suit with yellow tie) - white iris

BM's bout (same suit as groom) (billy balls)

For the 2 & 4 year old boys, and their mom: (yellow mokara)

For MOB & MOG - pin on corsages

For the dads:

So now it's like, everyone has a totally different flower, and I haven't even picked the MOH's bouquet yet.  Is that just...too much?

Should we just do callas on all the men (white for groom, yellow everyone else)?  The groom sort of prefers a white calla to the iris, but I think they look kind of ugly unless the shape & color is just perfect.  *sigh*

Then I have centerpiece issues too, but can save those for later...hehe.

When did I become a neurotic mess...OVER FLOWERS?!?

Personally...i think one kind of flower would be best.  You can either do a white calla with a yellow ribbon or a yellow calla with a white ribbon for your FI and a yellow calla with a yellow ribbon or another of your colours for eveyone else.  Flowers are hard..it's surprising how hard actually.  HTH! I know hey.... I never thought I'd ever know the name of so many flowers!!

I love all of your choices and I can see how it would be difficult to pick which to use and not use but IMO I do think it's too much to have everyone in a different flower. I LOVE the one you have picked for your groom and if you're not completely sold on the calla I'd stay with that one.... it also goes with your bouquet really well!! What about staying with your choice for both FI and MOG/B and then choosing one for everyone else? Or putting the entire family (BM, his wife and 2 boy's) all in the same flower?

Maybe if you work on picking the bridesmaid bouquet everything else might fall into place with fresh eyes.

Thanks, ladies.  Good suggestions.  I've been thinking about flowers for 2 days straight.  Time to ignore it for a bit & come back later :-)

I think it's fine to have that many flowers.  I love when weddings have lots of different flowers, but they are all the same color or two different colors.  That's what t look like you are doing.  Maybe have the MOH's pull all or most of those flowers together.  Except, not the kind in your bouquet.  Have the flowers in your bouquet be special and separate from hers. If those flowers make you happy then do it!

Sorry Tanq...don't want to hijack this thread.  The reason i like the one flower idea is for simplicity.  You will be busy getting ready and the last thing you need to worry about is if everyone is wearing the proper flower.  I am not really about everyone looking the same but i think some uniformity is a good thing especially if it makes things easier...but this is just my feeling and i am sure whatever you decide you will make work and it will look great.  J. I don't evey you.....*sigh* I had the most difficulty choosing my flowers.  IMHO, I like the idea of each person with a different flower but in the same color sceme.  Then maybe you could incorporate those flowers into your center pieces.

Thanks for all the suggestions, gals.  I think my issue on my sister's bouquet is that her dress is yellow...so I don't want to stick her with yellow flowers and make her Ms. Monochromatic.  And I *love* bright colorful mixes, so maybe she'll get something similar to the centerpieces.  Which brings me back to the other debate.

    I can't decide between:

    1. a kick ass mixed arrangement in a tall vase (no pineapple)pineapplecrop

    2. a centerpiece that has 3 pillars of different heights, each with the same flower but of a different color submerged in water.

so this setup, but less cluttered, with a floating candle:3greentowers

but each pillar being filled with one color of the same flower.  Callas or Moakaras.
    multicolored callasmulticolored mokaras

Or maybe I should just do both.  LOL.

To tell you the truth, I'm clueless about flowers, so I haven't added my two cents so far.  Although I finally found something I liked, which is why the original flower budget I had set aside (which was close to nilch) imploded to make it work!  Anyways... for the boutonnieres/corsages, I'm totally with ppl's opinions about having some uniformity between the pieces.  I think it would be nice to pick the flower you love, but have slightly different "arrangements" for each (i.e. some ppl have more than one bloom, some ppl have some greenery as a backing, etc.).  I think it's fine for the groom to have something different though to 'stand out'.

As for table arrangements, I'm also not certain...  How about having a mix of arrangements on different tables?  It's kinda boring to have the same arrangement on every table, so it might be fun to mix it up and have the best of both worlds.  :)  I also think the two table arrangements are very different and it all depends on personal preferences.  Something to consider is the submerged orchids might look more "illuminated" at night with the floating candles, which might have a nice effect.  The first arrangement looks beautiful and offers a "fuller" and more classic look.  I say go for both on different tables!  :)

Both centerpiece styles are so pretty. I can see why you're having a hard time deciding. I like the idea of using both on different tables or you could use one style for all of the centerpieces and another style to highlight an area (guest book table, escort card table, bathrooms).

I'm loving the mix of orchids. Callas can be found anywhere - orchids are just soooo Hawaiian.

All such great points, ladies.  THANK YOU!

Off to work on a new plan with more uniformity to the bouts / corsages...really love the suggestion of same flower with different pairings / treatments.  That might work!  And I do love the idea of using the pillars in one place, and the bouquet in another, or on different tables.

Wonder if the florist will do a pillar mockup for me!
