Dress dilema

So I didn't want to take over the engaged poll post so I'm starting a new one.
I'm a little bummed by this cause I thought this was the dress I wanted.

But now I'm hearing some words being used to describe it that I can't get out of my head pageant-y being one of them. I know it's a pretty dress. But now I'm not excited about it at all.

I don't think it's at all pageanty.  And it'll look totally different on you - you'll give it your own style.  Don't listen to what other people are saying.  Just remember how much you love it.

    And I think it's gorgeous!

I don't think it's pageanty at all, either!  Doesn't it have a really cool, sexy back?

I said this in the other post, but dresses always look so different on models and IRL.  I can't remember- have you tried this on in person yet?

I love the dramatic back of this dress and if one of your friends thinks it's pageant-y.  I'd liked to know what pageant she was watching!!

Dresses look so different in pictures vs. in person/on you.  I wouldn't be too discouraged if it is your dream gown.  I think it is quite gorgeous!

My DH told me a million times during our planning that he liked plain dresses that were not "big".  I wore a slightly big (A-line) beaded gown.  He loved it.

I agree with pp- dresses look sooo different on compared to on a model.  I told you already- but I actually tried this dress on, its very pretty, very sexy- and not pageanty... at least I didn't think so
  • edited December 2011

Aw, I understand why hearing that puts a damper on your excitement, but it is your dream dress no matter what- pageanty or not. I'm sure you're excitement will really come back once you try it on again too!

Oh, and FWIW, I have never thought "pageant" when I've seen pics of your dress. Sleek and a little sexy come to mind more.

I agree with PP's, that dress is gorgeous!

I don't think the dress is pageant-y at all.  I, too, was having dress doubts after purchasing it (my dress is very simple and I kept thinking maybe I wanted a more detailed dress), but all I needed to do is go back and think about how awesome I felt in it and all the doubts go away.

Are you planning on wearing a veil?  If so, I think that would take all pageant-y doubts/comments away.

Sorry for  leaving you all hanging.

No I have no pictures of me in it. Maybe that is the problem. And in order to put it back on to find out if I really do love it I would have to go back to a sotre where I had a terrible time. So I just don't know what to do.

I appreciate all of your positive thoughts on it though. It is a really beautiful dress. I don't get the pageant-y comment either. It confused the h3ll out of me.

No I was not planning on wearing a veil.

    I second that!

I don't think this looks pageanty at all, not with a super sexy back.  You also won't be standing on a stage with a sash on, fake smile, and a goofy hand wave.  You've got pizzazz and that will change the entire dress.  Any pics of you in this?

Do no other stores have your dress? Maybe if you had a good experience you'd feel different.

It's a pretty dress! If it were pagenty it'd be covered in gaudy sequins and spangles like a 1990's prom dress (which I tried to find pictures of, but can not :( )

Your dress looks like, and the pic is small so I can't really tell, it just has some sparkle along the neck line and on the back. You're the one wearing it, so you're the only one that has to love it!

I love it!  I don't think it looks pagent-y at all.  Whoever told you that is a dope.  Nowadays everyone's dresses look so different.  i don't think there is a "norm" for wedding dresses anymore.  I think it looks amazing, and if you love, it should be your dress.

Well I'd be lying to myself if I said that my heart wasn't aching a little for another dress that I tried on once before.

Clearly it looks nothing like the one I posted above, but I think I need to try it on again.

There's no reason not to go try on more dresses if you're not ready to commit!  After all, you only get to do this once :)

Both of the dresses you've posted here give me a sort of 20s/ Art Deco vibe- I can see why you like them both!

Hahahaha.  See, your friend is nuts!  To make it pageanty, you could always bedazzle the whole thing, put in some random nude-fabric panels, and then cut a thigh-high slit in it.

I love your dress! It looks like a wedding dress to me. Some people just have no sensor for what comes out of their mouth. It may not be their dream dress, but if it's yours I'd say roll with it. My FMIL thinks my dress looks like an evening dress. I had to really bite my tounge when she wrinkled her nose and said that.

I'm gonna go with my gut - I still like the first one better.  It's classy, sexy, sleek and it's just so... you!  And can I remind you the back is gorgeous?
