Reception venue double booked!

So what I thought was starting out be to be a good day couldn't get any worse. I got a phone call from the Best Western where we are having our reception to find out it's been double booked and we get the boot! I almost started crying on the phone because I couldn't believe that the bad dream I had once actually came true. We now have to either cancel and get all our money back and find a new place, get free of charge the Ramada because they own them or change the date. The Ramada is a lot smaller but would still barely fit 80 people if everyone came and be cheaper. The $1400 we put for the ballroom and food would then be all put for food and the lady that messed up said she would bend over backwards for us. There is no way changing the date would be a good thing because then we would lose money from the photographer and have to find a new one, the DJ is booked and so is the officiant. I really don't feel like planning the wedding all over again. Not to mention we would have to make new save the date cards and invitations and everybody is already looking forward to the date we have. My fiancée is not going to be happy about it when we gets home from work. Cry

Re: Reception venue double booked!

  • Some venue managers are just incompetent. We had a similar problem, but we booked before the other couple so we got to keep it and they had to change their date. But I can understand your frustrations. If you did have to change the date, could you do it the day before or the day after? You can also talk to the vendors you have already booked to see if they can change the date without you losing your deposit since this fiasco isn't your fault. Like PP said, I'd be leery of booking a venue with the same manager. I wouldn't want to give that company any more of my money. Sorry you have to deal with that.

  • I had a friend go through something similar. If someone proves themselves to be this incompetent once, I'd probably be leery of working with them. I'd really start looking into other venues ASAP.

In general, I agree with Linger. Call your other vendors, explain the situation and see if they're able to go with another date.

    Good luck!

  • That is so awful... I'm so sorry. Yes, try to talk to your vendors and do whatever you possibly can to keep your money away from them!
  • If it's a chain, I honestly would call headquarters to complain. I understand human error, but that is one that really screws you over. Other than that, I just have to say I am so sorry you're going through this... will drink a glass of wine for you tonight ;)
  • i'd try to find another venue or demand a HUGE discount from them for your troubles.
