Tips to spiff up wording?

So far, this is what we have come up with for our wording..  Any tips to clean it up or is this appropriate (grammar, spelling, etiquette)?

The pleasure of your company
is requested at the marriage of
Ashley (middle and last name)
to
Mark (middle and last name)
on Saturday the twenty-first of July
two thousand twelve
at six-thirty in the evening (EVENING OR AFTERNOON???)
Anthony's Pier 9
2975 Route 9W
New Windsor, New York

Cocktails and Reception immediately following

Also, my parents aren't 'hosting' our wedding (my fiance and I are primarily funding), so should I still put my parent's names for the RSVP so any questions are directed to them?  Just as a brief background, my fiance and I travel from town to town remodeling stores for our company year round, so I am planning this from afar.  We are using my parents address for everything as I do not technically have a physical address...

Thank you!!

  • just to add, the ceremony is at our reception venue, not a church, and it will be a traditional black tie wedding.

  • I'd change the year to 'two thousand and twelve' and the time is 'half after six o'clock in the evening'.  The 'in the evening' part is up to you.   If you want it on there the time is evening but since you wouldn't have a 6:30 AM ceremony, the extra portion is not required.

<div>I actually live in this area. It is 9W, not 9 West. Route 9 is a totally different road, and there is no 9 East. The road really is 9W. There is also a 9D in the area, and I'm thinking that since you can't change that abbreviation, 9W needs to remain 9W.</div><div>
</div><div>And OP - holy way too many personal details! You should really edit out your personal info from this.</div>

  • Two thousand AND twelve is actually incorrect, you have it right when you say two thousand twelve, OP.

When you say "traditional black tie wedding," then you mean that you are having your wedding at the best venue in town, top shelf bar, best food, live band, and you want your guests in tuxedos.  Because it's not just the apparel that defines a black tie wedding.

So if this applies to you, then be sure to put Black tie in the lower right hand corner of your invitation.
  • Having a really difficult time coming up with the right wording for our invite. Groom's parents are hosting it but want to include Bride's parents names on the invite. I know the Bride's name generally appears first but how does it work when the groom's parents host? Help!!! Also, bride's parents ( married) but have kept their own names ( lots of letters). Anything I try comes out way unbalanced on the invite.
  • I agree that two thousand AND twelve is wrong.  To put 'and' in a number means there is a decimal point.

You also need a comma after Saturday.
