Too early?? Help me out here!

I think I just need someone to back me up on this :)

I made my very first appointment yesterday to go look at wedding dresses!! I'm SO excited...in an ideal world, I would've done it the day we got engaged, haha.
But as soon as I told them my wedding date, they told me it was pretty early to start looking at dresses.
Am I dumb for wanting to look and possibly buy now, with 490 days to go??

  • Looking is completely fine, but I would hold off and make sure you really look around before you buy.  And when you do buy, STOP looking.
  • Kristy is right. I think that it is too early to buy but there is nothing wrong with looking.

     Definitely this.

Looking now will help because what you like now may not be what you like on. Or something that had no appeal to you may actually be amazing on you. Have fun and don't stress. You have more then enough time to find a dress.

    Ditto rest of the ladies!!!
  • I'll add another opinion that differs with the rest.

My date is the 15th of Oct, I found my dress last month, first day shopping with my sister.  We went to Demetrios in Atlanta (trunk show, which was very disappointing).  I really liked his dresses but they were so expensive.

Went into Davids, found a dress that was almost identical, and it was discontinued.  They marked it down and for the price, I grabbed it.
I did continue to look a few more times, but nothing compared to the one I bought, so I'm still very happy with what I have.

Normally I would agree to waiting, but I knew exactly what I wanted, and know I wont change my mind. So for me, the early timeframe worked.  But I realize this may be an exception.

  • Thanks for all of the opinions, ladies.

I've never been one for just looking around for fun...I'm really bad at being able to tell if a dress will look good or not by looking at a picture or if it's on a hanger, so I just don't even try! Once I find something, even if that's a year from now, I know I'll have no problem with not looking again.

I think I'll just go into it with an open mind. I have one appointment for Friday, and if I find something I like, that's just one less thing I'll have to worry about by October 2011 :)

  • I actually found my dress yesterday.  I had some people telling me it was too early and some people telling me I needed to start finding what I want.  So I went several times, and to several stores, and happened to fall in love with the one Saturday.  I will not be dress shopping now that I have found the one I want.  I think I'm doing the right thing for me, and I think that's all that matters.  I think that it's a relief to have that done because I am not a dress person. ;)
