Wedding Invitations & Paper

And Guest RSVP

My wedding venue only holds 200 people.  With that said, I have only added "and Guest" to invitations for the bridal party.  However, I have gotten a few response cards that have 2 attending, when only 1 was officially invited.

How do you tell someone you weren't planning on them bringing a date?

Re: And Guest RSVP

  • I would just say, I'm really sorry, space is very tight. I'd love for you to be there but I cannot accommodate anyone extra. I'm really sorry. Hope you can still make it.

I wouldn't tell that to some one until I've received most of my RSVPs back.. just incase you have seats to fill anyway.

  • I don't advocate PPs response.  You need to tell the invited guest right away if s/he needs to make different plans due to the extra person not being invited.

  • You need to contact them ASAP.  Say something like this:

"We're so happy that you and _____________ are excited to share our wedding day with us.  Unfortunately, due to space constraints, we were unable to extend invites to dates for guests.  I'm so sorry, and we will understand if you're not able to attend without ____________.  We would love to have lunch with both of you after the wedding and honeymoon excitement have died down, though!"

Then, if you get a lot of declines, you can contact people and let them know there's room.  But don't let them make plans if you can't accomodate them.

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • Are these SOs of people? Or are they truly single people who want to bring a date? Because boyfriends/girlfriends/FIs/spouses DO need to be invited. Just wanted to check...

But yeah, I agree with PPs.
