Dress preservation suggestions.

My dress is sitting in the trunk of my car, waiting to be taken in for cleaning and preservation.  I successfully made a mess of the bottom dancing and partying barefoot!

Does anybody have a suggestion for NW suburban companies to do the cleaning/preservation?  My normal dry cleaner is Vogue Cleaners in Crystal Lake, but they want to take six months to do this!

I know David's Bridal does a shipping preservation service, where it's under $200 (about what Vogue quoted me) and you mark the spots yourself, send it in, and get it back three weeks later.  I know the nightmares of buying dresses from David's but has anyone had good results with their storage kit?

  • My daughter bought her dress from Kathryn's in McHenry.  They used this company for her dress cleaning and preservation:

Do you know how long it took her to get it back, and was she happy with their contact/updates so she knew it wasn't just lost somewhere?  Did they have to be the middle men or did she just rather have Kathryn's in there helping?

She took it in to Kathryn's to set the wheels in motion, but I think you can contact the company directly to make arrangements.  I think she may have gotten a discount by going through Kathryn's.

Her wedding was in June, 2011,  and I'm pretty sure we got it back in late August.  If I recall, we needed to be home at the time it was delivered.  We did get a notice ahead of time giving us an indication as to what day it would be delivered.  I don't remember if we had a choice in delivery dates. We did not have any concerns/worries as to its whereabouts.

The dress was returned professionally packed and boxed.  To be honest, I do not think it has ever been taken out of the box to be "checked", in part because I don't think she would be able to repackage it properly.

    I'm sorry I can't offer more/better information.
  • No that's perfect info, thank you!  I had a poor experience with Kathryn's but I know lots of people like it there.  I'll look into using the services from dress shops.
