  • Hey ladies!  I just got home from the hospital - they are keeping him another night, which he is not happy about.  At all.  He had surgery around 5 and they were able to remove the stone.  It was almost 5mm, so a decent sized one.  He's still having quite a bit of pain, hence the need to stay overnight.  He should come home tomorrow - thanks for asking!

  • Very glad to hear!  Are things still looking good for the cruise?

  • Barring any unforseen complications, we should be good to go.  We were planning on ATVing/Jet skiing on our first stop, so we may have to cancel that, but that's ok.

  • Did they not give him anything for the pain?  Was he knocked out for the surgery or just local anesthesia?

    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • oh he had general anesthesia - it was a fairly sizeable stone, so i'm guessing the pulling it out part is what is causing the pain.  he got some meds in the recovery room, but didn't help much, so he had to wait 3 hours for his next dose. I just called to remind him to call the nurse, and she had already brought it in without him asking.  she rocks.

  • is he at the hospital you work at?

When I first woke up after my surgery I was in so much pain, and the nurse didn't believe me because she said I should have more than enough pain killers.  I was hyperventilating and sobbing (first experience with anasthesia, haha not proud of it), and when she finally asked what my pain level was on a scale of 1 to 10 I told her 12.  So she finally upped my drip.

  • No - I'm actually at an outpatient surgery center.  I had wanted him to go to the hospital I used to work for, just cause I know all the surgeons and anesthesia there.  And I've seen enough to like to hand pick those people :)  But he didn't go there...  so whatever.  Hopefully his ureter is still intact and he'll be feeling much better tomorrow :)
If it had ended up being his appendix, I would have been for sure handpicking that surgeon.  But that turned out to not be the case.

Is your outpatient center really good about staying on a time schedule?  I hope I never need to have a surgery in a hospital after my experience at the outpatient center.  We were amazed that I was told to be there at 7:30 and was called in at 7:35.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Would they have let you in the room if it was at your place?
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • It's very surgeon-specific as far as timing goes.  But if you're scheduled at 0700 or 0730, since those are the first cases, we are usually pretty good with that.  We have some surgeons who are fully convinced that a surgery that will take them 3 hours will only take 2.  They schedule it for 2, it takes 3 and then we are scrambling to make up time.  Happens almost every day.
But, still, overall it is much quicker at a surgery center as opposed to a hospital.

Yeah, a lot of places have policies against that, but we don't.  We had nurses have their nieces and nephews and they've been in the room.  I probably would ask to not be in the room if it was H, but I would ask for specific people.  I'm kinda a control freak apparently :)

  • oh yes, we have prince surgeons too.

  • So can I tell you how ridiculously jealous I am that you are going on your cruise on Sunday.  I can't wait until we book our cruise.  We are trying to talk one of friend couples into coming with us.  We had to convince them that even though its our "honeymoon" we want someone to hang out with.

    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Ha!  We tried to get people to come with us too!  I love vacations with friends.
    Photobucket
  • Damn, dnb.  you caught up to my post count in a flash :)
    Photobucket
  • Yeah me too.  We went on our first cruise alone and we ended up meeting a couple on the ship that we hung out with a lot.  I laugh on the HM board when people always say they want to sit alone at dinner.  I don't get what you would have to talk about alone at dinner, when you've been alone all week together.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • Haha I've been on here a lot during the day.  But yeah I'm shocked at how quick its gone up.  I might be gold by the time you get back from your trip.
    imageBabyFruit Ticker
  • We did the select dining, where we can just show up whenver we want, so i'm guessing we'll be be ourselves some times.  i think it would be fun to meet new people.  i'm quite social after a few drinks :)
    Photobucket
  • 6001?  I think that should be your goal.
    Photobucket
  • Holy crap is it 6001 to Gold?  Okay maybe I won't hit that, ever.  I remember when I first started posting I thought I would never hit bronze.  But then this became my social entertainment of the day and my count just blew up.

I've never had the option of the select dining.  I like the late seating dinner and getting to know our wiat staff.  The couple we met was actually from the casino, since we spent every night there.  So we would meet there and hang out and have drinks and stuff.  Then we hung out on the sea days and our last day which was in Cozumel.  It was fun to have someone else to hang out with too.  Haha we aren't that couple who prefers being alone.

  • Yeah, H and I have been together long enough to appreciate time with other people  Especially when we're going to be gone for almost 2 weeks.
    Photobucket
  • And I think my liking of the select dining goes back to my control issues :)  I don't like being told what to do and when.  :)
