Chairs that aren't ugly...?

Most of the party rental sites I've come across have listed your basic brown metal folding chairs for $1.50 a piece, which is reasonable, but they're ugly!  The nice ones seem to jump in price to around $4.00 a piece, which seems ridiculous for one single chair.  We plan on using the same chairs for our ceremony and reception to cut down on price. Anyone have any ideas for frugal chair coverings? Or any ideas on where else to look for chairs? We expect around 130 guests.

  • I found chair covers locally for $3.50 apiece.  If prices are similar in your area, it makes more sense to just rent the nicer chairs rather than the folding chairs and chair covers.

  • Is there a more untraditional route we can take to finding cheap chairs? I'm think about the local high school or something. This is one area where we really want to cut corners. Does anyone have any experience with this?

  • I wouldn't have folding chairs at my wedding. Chivari Chairs seem to be the wedding standard and they range between $5-$7 a piece from what I've found. Maybe you need to scale back in other areas to be able to get the chairs.
  • It you want to cut costs - I'd just go with the brown chairs, at the end of the day everyone will be looking at you not your chairs.

I had the same problem - I need chairs for the ceremony and brown folding chairs are 1.50, white folding chairs are 2.75, white bistro chairs $4 - i decided to go with the brown folding casue i could use the extra 100+ dollars for something my guest might truly rememeber

  • I would notice brown folding chairs- in fact, if I walked into a room it will be the first thing I see. Brown folding chairs are something elderly women sit on, in their church basement, while playing bingo. They don't belong at a wedding.

Sorry, but I think this attitude is kind of snobby (combined with your prior post that everybody needs chiavari chairs and should just cut back on other things).  I would much rather sit on a brown folding chair and have good food and drink than sit on a fancy chair and have less food because show was more important.

</div><div>OP--I don't think brown folding chairs will look bad. Nobody will notice. The people that love and care about you want to see you, not judge your chairs.
