My BMs have been talking and asked me and my FI if we would like to have them throw us a co-ed shower. We are really excited about the idea especially since most of my friends are guys anyway. One of them called it a "Jack and Jill" shower. I thought the name was so cool... until I went and looked it up. Apparently in parts of the country, a Jack and Jill shower means selling admission tickets and raffle tickets for prizes in an effort to raise money for the wedding. While I am not the type of person to begrudge anyone else their own customs and whims, I don't want anyone associating that with us. What do we call co-ed showers in Columbus other than co-ed showers? Jack and Jill was such a cute name, but if they invite people from Indiana and Ohio, will they assume it is a BBQ in the backyard (which it is) or a fundraiser?
Anyone have a different cute name for a co-ed shower that the BMs could use instead? TIA
ps- for those of you who will use this question as a chance to lecture me that I am not supposed to have any part of planning my own shower, please keep it to yourself. I am helping them come up with a clear invite as they asked me to. Refusing to help would have been stupid, especially since it would be my future family that might be getting the wrong message. Sorry for being defensive, but I have been looking over other posts for an answer to this and any bride who asks a question about a shower seems to get reamed. I fail to see how that is helping someone. I just want to know some local wedding terminology.
