Makeup...What to do!

So, I have decided to do my own makeup (or at the very least buy my own products and have my friends help). I am very particular about my make up and am very natural when it comes to makeup. I do not like a lot of it and am very simple. My future MIL and I went to Ulta this weekend, did some shopping and got some advice. I did a "trial run" with what I purchased and I am feeling a bit torn so hoping you guys can give some advice.

First off, my fiance said that while my makeup looked very nice and I was beautiful, he likes my every day "natural" look. I tried to keep the look as natural as possible and yet make it enhanced a bit for photos and long lasting.

Secondly, I am torn on the lipstick area. I NEVER wear lipstick and I am very pale as it is. In addition, my dress is very white. The ladies at the store recommened a dark "berry" color of lipstick...but I am wondering if I could get away with something more natural looking?

We are not having a professional photographer, but a friend of mine who does photography on the side for fun is taking our pictures.

Any advice would be wonderful! Thank you. :)

Personally, I LOVE fun lip colors, especially for brides.  They can really pull a whole makeup "look" together.

have you considered a lip tint or a lip stain rather than a lipstick? I have a few great ones - they last longer, and the color is not as intense. Tints and stains give you a lighter wash of color without being as intense as a lipstick. Check our the tints by Tarte - those are the ones that I have.

The other lip trick I have been doing lately is skipping lipstick.  I start with lipliner (I don't mean I line my lips with liner - I fill my lips in ENTIRELY with the pencil to serve as a base) and then put a sheer gloss on top of it. It is really long lasting and a prettier look than matted and thick lipsticks.

I love the dark berry colors that the Ulta ladies recommended to you, but if you never wear lipstick at all, it might seem REALLY drastic for you to walk down the aisle in a deep purple color.

I love corals right now, as well as LIGHT reds with a tint or a stain. Either of these might be really pretty options that wouldn't be as drastic as a deep purple.

Edit: I don't think I explained totally clearly....to me, the tints, stains, and the light gloss on top of the pencil is a look that is lighter and more natural than a deep matted lipstick - which is why I explained those options to you :)
  • I have never heard of the tints or stains (shows how often I wear anything on my lips, lol), but I do like the idea of the liner with a gloss!I might try that and see what it does. They suggested a liner that I really like so paired with a natural looking gloss it just might be perfect!

    Thanks!
  • I am pretty fair as well, and I am not a big fan of berry shades on me. They are gorgeous on some ppl, I just don't think I'm one of those ppl.

I'm planning on wearing "Angel" lipstick by MAC. It's a really pretty pink but fairly natural looking. If you're looking for a drugstore dupe, apparently ELF's "classy" is pretty much dead on for Angel.

  • For photos, you need a bit more makeup than you'd normally wear. For my makeup trial, I was really concerned that the makeup was "too much" for me, but when you start taking photos, it looks like a lot less. I would definitey err on the side of doing more than your normal everyday makeup, especially if the photographers aren't professional photographers who have all sorts of gadgets to mess with the photos to make you look better.

Also, if I can, I'd recommend NOT wearing a bold lipcolor if it's not really your style. You want to look like yourself, just better. A natural lip gloss shade that I LOVE and wear all the time is "Orgasm" by NARS (apologies for the terrible name of the gloss; it really is called that). It looks pink in the tube but it basically just looks like a little bit of flush for your lips. You can order it online at Sephora. To show you how it shows up in photos, I'm wearing it here:

I love NARS orgasm blush, I didn't know it was a lipgloss, too! I might have to try that...
