Map Enclosure?

Hi ladies, I'm hoping you can relax my mind.  All my guests have to travel to my venue, no one is local.  Last September, one of my guests drove out and met me for a glass of wine at my venue.  She got lost trying to find the vineyard.  Now I'm worried my guests won't find our venue easily.

My question is, should I spend extra money and order a customized map for the invitations?  FI says no, it's too expensive and just a silly piece of extra paper.  I've included detailed directions on my website, and am listing the address that TomTom goes by to find it.  Not everyone has a GPS, and not everyone will check the website though, which is why I'm worried.  I've looked at etsy, and they range from $30 to $150, plus having to print it ourselves.  This is where an unlimited budget would be handy lol.

Re: Map Enclosure?

  • Would you consider making a customized map on Google first?  I included a YouTube link with the basics below.

I included one on my wedding website.  It's also a Google site, so embedding it was easy.  I create icons on it, demarking the venue, points of transportation, hotel, etc. and I also mapped the route from the hotel to the venue.

You can save this in "My Maps" and get the link to share with your family and friends.  Those with a smart phone can pull up your specific map.

In terms of printing, I wouldn't be inclined to spend extra on this.  If I were in your shoes, I'd create a GIF, JPG, or other image file, copy and paste it into a Word document and print color copies for invitation inserts.

    Good luck!

  • I wouldn't print them either. As long as it's on your website you should be fine.

  • We are going to include directions. Not a map, but worded directions as an insert. None of my guests will be local. We will be putting up an actual map on our website in addition to the insert. We are printing them ourselves. You can get 4 cards per page.

Where did you get the cardstock you're using and are you using a specific program to print these cards yourself?

I have a similar issue as the OP....I am sending out about 150 invitations, and of those, 40 guests are not local.  I am blocking off some rooms at a hotel but I don't want to get "Accommodations" enclosure cards because i feel like it's a waste of money for the few amount of people that will need that information.  The info will be on my website, and my website address is printed on my STDs, but I am worried not everyone look at the website.  I was thinking of printing my own cards and putting them in the envelopes with the STDs.  I was only planning on putting these cards in the envelopes of people that are not local.  Do you all think that's okay, or should I give one to everyone?

  • I will be putting the map on our web-site and printing directions. I think you are fine doing it this way.

  • Personally I'd think about your guests before making these.  If you think it's needed I'd make them and just print them with VP or some other company so it doesn't cost so much.

Most people today I feel would use their GPS or just look it up beforehand.

  • I wouldn't print them. If you have directions listed on your site you're ok

I have the same problem but I listed the directions on my website. Most of my invites are local, but a good portion of them are from out of town or State. We also didn't want to spend the extra money to print maps or direction cards. We simply noted directions are located on our website...

  • Thanks for all the input.  I think I'll pass on the maps, but might include some written instructions on an "additional info" sheet.  At least that is in budget, because we don't need a "reception" sheet.  Thanks again!

  • I dont have the address right now but there is a site where you can get a free map then just have to print. I would do a directions card on vp with a map on the back. I know i would appreciate a card i can physically look at. We do not have gps & not everyone else will either.
