Assigned tables

I am having stations but the last wedding I went to had buffet and no assigned seating and it was kind of a mad house.  People were moving chairs from one table to another such.  So I guess I am going to do assigned tables.

My question is, if you are assigning tables, how are you doing it?  Are you going to have a chart, or are you going to do escort cards?  Pros and cons of either?

Also, how are you displaying the numbers on the tables?  I originally thought I would get these dollar tree picture frames and do it that way, but they are kind of small so I am eyeing some table number holders on etsy instead.

I am using Dollar Tree frames. :)  As long as the number is legible, I think that's fine.  As for seating arrangements, we are doing escort cards.  The cards will assign each guest a table number, but they can sit at whatever seat at that table that they choose.  HTH!

I found silver colored table number holders on etsy for $1.50/each but I was looking into gold colored ones since the chargers and chairs are gold...why are they so much harder to find and expensive?  Its not like its made out of real gold or anything sheesh.

this is what we're doing for the escort card display:

For table numbers, we thought of making stands out of a heavy wire that mimic the look of the escort card holder or this:

I think we are going to do a seating chart. I am not really 100% decided yet though.
as for table numbers we are doing pictures of our dogs in black and white with the number in pink. I am going to make wire picture holders. I just havent figured out if the table number should come out of the arrangement (short square vase of cream roses) or have it sitting on the table.  I was thinking coming out of the centrepiece would be a space saver (we are doing family style) and would have the table number higher up and easier to see.... but I am not sure if it would look funny.
    Any thoughts?

We will be doing escort cards that will be attached to small starfish. We are naming our tables after places we have been. We will use 4x6 black wood frames with photos of us in that place with the name of the place. I am going to make them look like postcards.

If you are unable to find something you like in gold, you could always spray paint. That's what I did with the frames I had...they were brown and I spray painted them.

We'll just tell people what table to sit at, but they can choose their actual seat. They'll get up and mingle after diner anyway.

We're doing escort cards. I'm looking into tall card holders also. I'm probably going to name the tables after things that are significant to FI and me - but this is one of those projects I promised myself I'd skip if things get too crazy.

    and display it like this....

and these are the table numbers I made and they are just gonna be in simple frames i'm getting from the dollar store. they are 4x6

I'm doing the board as well for assigned tables. My reception hall has the table numbers for us to use for free. yeah...one less thing to think about.

We are doing a seating chart and escort cards (well, kind of).  Our seating chart will be the name of the guests for each table, placed in two collage picture frames...which we can then take home and use for all of our wedding photos!  Then we have personal cards placed on each table that will sit under their favors that has their names on the front and a thank you verse on the back.  Hopefully, no one gets confused! :)

Please have assigned tables!  I've been to a couple of weddings as a date of a groomsman (who sat at the head table) so it was awful picking a seat in a room full of strangers.  Plus, like you said, I think without assigned tables everything is a clusterf#ck - families & groups of friends either get split up or all crowd in at a table meant for less people.

We are doing escort cards, but they also need to double as an indicator as to which meal our guests picked since we are having a plated dinner.  If I was having a buffet or family style, I'd probably just do a cool seating chart board.  For our escort cards, we are doing origami cranes - the color (purple, lavender, blue, gray, or white) indicates the meal selection and the guest's name & table number will be written on the wings.  This was my inspiration photo:

For our table numbers, I ordered 7" script letters from craftyeddy.  I am going to paint all of them metallic silver, and then put glitter paint on top of that on the number part only.  Similar to this (unfinished):

Love the chalkboard for table assignments!  I was hoping to use an antique window and assign each table to a separate pane of glass, but now  you all have me realizing that alphabetical listings is a must!

We're thinking about naming our tables after types of wine or neighborhoods in Minneapolis (where we live).

We are making a big seating chart with people listed under the tables (and we are naming the tables not numbering them)...I have a fabulous idea for the seating chart, but I won't give that away untill its done ;). Also we are having peoples names in 3dpaint on rocks at thier place at the tables, (or maybe in the middle of the table so they can choose thier seat? i dont know yet)

We are making scallop shell escort cards and the tables will be named after local beaches (or at least this is what we are hoping to do, if things get too crazy we will just number the tables) :)
