Well, it's official. I am no longer an October 2011 bride
Some of you might remember, FI and I were deciding whether to keep our big, traditional wedding or to elope just the two of us. After crunching some numbers, we realized that we simply couldn't afford our wedding (the reception). We cut the guest list from 430, to 350, and finally to 250. Even at 250, we won't be able to come up with the money needed. We were banking on some things that we probably shouldn't have - like I thought I'd have a better job and make more money and FI was waiting for an inheritance from an uncle that is now held up in court. We are about 10K short for our reception. So, rather than go broke or beg people for money (lol) we decided that we simply need to do what we can afford. I am sad, but FI put it in perspective for me - it's not like we are calling our marriage off - we are still getting married. It's just hard since I have put so much time, thought, effort and money into planning this wedding that it is sort of heart-breaking not to have it. But, we know this is what we have to do.
So - we are going to Mexico, just the two of us and having a very private DW and honeymoon. We are moving our date to March, bc we are anxious and don't really see any point in waiting now. We have cancelled everything up here (DJ, venue, photographer, etc) and have scheduled our wedding at our resort for March 7. Over the summer or early fall, we are going to do a big cookout type party for everyone that was on our guest list for our wedding here.
I may stop in on this board from time to time, bc I truly thing you ladies are fantastic and I will miss you! Plus, I have some FANTASTIC stuff I will be selling. This week is kinda hectic for us, but next week I plan on making a weebly site for everything for sale. Meanwhile, good luck to everyone and I know you will be beautiful brides!
