Beware Brides...The Knot "features" scam artist

I was married in New Orleans on April 14th and it was a beautiful ceremony with 60 family and friends that flew in from New York to celebrate with us. I planned the wedding myself from start to finish and used the knot as a haven to get great ideas and to meet vendors.

Back in October I searched The Knot for wedding officiant and found Meredith Smith (featured on the site). I contacted her, and hired her within the week. I paid for the services upfront and looked forward to her presiding over our wedding.
Around February I began contacting her and was NOT recieving any response, after several attempts I realized I was being defrauded by this person...leaving me weeks away from my wedding and no one to marry us!!!! (Bride's worst nightmare)

Luckily, I found someone to marry us and I paid another person to marry us, which was NOT in the budget. (it was a beautiful ceremony)

What I didn't find beautiful was the reaction by the knot!!!!! when I contacted them and told them what happened to me, for weeks I didn't get any response from THE KNOT! Once I began hitting social media about how I was treated, only then was I  contacted and informed in an email of their "terms and conditions" which seemed to me to be a "Sorry, better luck next time" answer. But even worst than the way they blew me off, is the fact that the vendor is still featured on their site!!!!!! So she can defraud more brides to be!!!!!!
Until now....the issue has not been resolved nor has the knot contacted me to let me know what they plan on doing about this problem.
Brides please do not get scammed like I did and the only way to do that is to NEVER trust vendors promoted by THE KNOT!

  • Vendors pay to be featured on TK and other websites. No one actually recommends or checks them out. SOrry that happened to you.

  • I'm sorry that happened to you but in the rules you will also see you can't come on here and report bad or good things about vendors.  But I am truely sorry.

  • Vendors pay to be promoted on The Knot. Just because there's an ad for a vendor on this site doesn't mean that The Knot endorses them.

I'm sorry that happened to you though, that really sucks! At least it all turned out well in the end! Perhaps try contacting the Better Business Bureau? Maybe there's some way to get your money back.

  • The Knot is just another cog in the big wedding industrial complex wheel, likely no better or worse than any other website that takes money for advertisements.  Unfortunately, you  got taken by an unscrupulous vendor.  Sorry that happened to you.  Luckily, everything turned out well for your wedding, despite that hiccup.

In the future, you may want to check references before you pay for any vendor's services.
  • That really does suck, and I'm sorry that happened to you.  That being said, you never pay someone up front, you pay them after and always have a contract.  Never trusting ANY vendor on TK is a bit extreme, since I'm sure there are honest, harworking vendors on here.  ALso, since the person you dealt with isn't employed or affiliated with TK, there really isn't anything they CAN do.  AS for her still being featured, it's your word against hers, they may need proof that it really happened or may have a contract with her, sinc she paid to be featured, and may have to uphold it.
  • I was scammed by Meredith Smith as well.  My wedding was just this past weekend and luckily we found someone else.  The knot is helpful in some areas but like previous people mentioned, they are endorsed, The Knot is just a site to gather vendors that have paid to be on there.  Would you pay $50 to gain $100?  That is what these scammer scumbags are doing.
