Where Are You Having Your Wedding?

I Never placed much thought into this untill I went to look at a location for my wedding.
So I wanted to know where is your wedding location?

Do anyone know the pros and cons of having your wedding at a hotel or banquet hall ?

I am having my wedding at a banquet hall called The Esplanade.

    www.esplanadememphis.com

I like having everything in one location, however, we could't bring in any outside alcohol or food b/c it is a full service banquet hall.  We had a really hard time picking our menu at first but it all worked out in the end and we have great tasting food.  But that may be a suggestion, when you go make sure you are clear about bringing in food and liquor.  Also full service banquet halls sometimes like to add on charges for parking, security, and bartenders so make sure you pay attention to that as well.

I dont know all of the pros and cons about a hotel wedding. I will say that a friend of mine got married in a hotel. The had to be out of the room by midnight.. of course the guests werent done celebrating so they moved the party to the lobby.
the manager of the hotel ended up coming over asking everyone to leave because it was loud and the other guests were complaining.

Thank you Ejagers, Because I loved the banquet hall we looked at. everything would be in one location also. The only reason why Im even considering this is bc my husband has Jehovah Witness in his family and you know they willnot step foot in a church. I did want a church wedding. :(

Thank you! I have always loved it.  we will be getting married on the stairs. Everyone will move upstairs to the side room for the cocktail hour on one side of the venue.  So that the downstairs can be set up for the reception.  upstairs on the other side, i am going to set up a kids area with babysitters so that the parents can enjoy themselves.

Ours is in an art gallery that has TONS of history to it. We choose it based on it being a conversation piece and not just a "normal" venue. I attached the history of it.

We're having our wedding at The Defoor Centre which is an Art Gallery that is also used for Special Events. I went for an open house and fell in love with it! It's something different that my friends haven't done and allows me to have a lot of creative flow.

It is full service as well, so I can't bring in outside catering and liquor, but the flipside is that they include linens, chiavari chairs, and they only have one wedding per date, so we have the entire facility for the day and that helps with my decor because I plan on transforming the space with drapery and lighting. The catering also includes passed hors devoures for the cocktail hour and wedding cake from their on site pastry chef.

I had looked at the Westin and the Marriot properties by the airport and after service charges, tax, gratuity, it was too much money and sometimes hotel food can be so generic and not enough customization is available.

This is the Forum area where we are having the reception:

    <a href="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/0/1/7021b8c5-3b58-4097-8151-ce16e58bb261.large.jpg" title="Click to view a larger photo" class="PhotoLink"><img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/images/store/0/1/7021b8c5-3b58-4097-8151-ce16e58bb261.medium.jpg" alt="" /></a>

and we're also able to use the other space in the facility for the Cocktail Hour, so when reception time is started its the dramatic effect :)

Girl, I grew up JW so I know exactly what you mean. If budget allows you can do a country club, there is a mansion for rent here in Houston, or many banquet halls.
I don't knock hotel weddings/receptions but I like to keep my event private. You run the possibility of strangers crashing your wedding at a hotel.

Here is a link of the wedding I saw at a mansion.

  • Our ceremony was in the church that I grew up in. I've always wanted a church wedding.

We had our cocktail hour, reception, and after party at The Westin Hotel. As soon as I saw the different areas for cocktails and reception, I fell in love with the high ceilings and huge chandeliers, I couldn't say no. They were pricey, however the food was to die for and the service was impeccable.

  • We are getting married at a hotel on the campus of the University where we met. It has alot of significance to us. We are having the wedding on the patio and the reception will be in the ball room. We also have access to the Foyer for Cocktail hour and after the ceremony they can throw some tall tables and lounge chairs out on the patio! So far I LOVE having everything in one place. We even get a free suite that night! Our out of town guests can be all in one place so its convenient for everyone. They only have to venture around the city if they choose to in their free time.

Our ceremony and reception will be at Tinelli's Hathaway House in Solon, NY. We loved it from the moment we saw it and booked it right afterward.

The aisle I'm walking down viewed from the gazebo. This is the patio where the cocktail hour will be held.

This is the view from the driveway approaching the building. It's a pretty large Victorian home they rent out for events.

Here's the gazebo where we're saying our vows; I'm still icked about those plastic chairs but they assured us they have nice, new chairs for the ceremonies. Our florist is going to work her magic on this as well.

We chose this location because of the pretty flexible rules, the bar and food availability as well as the general location. Not sure if it's considered a banquet hall because the caterer is on-site...

With hotels, no transport for the guests is necessary but you really have to be on the look out for crashers. 2 out of the 3 weddings at hotels we went to last year had crashers that the groomsmen had to escort out. Banquets facilities are more private but you have to consider transportation and food/beverage restrictions.

  • We are having our ceremony and reception at the Omni Dallas Park West.  I wanted a hotel wedding because both of our families will be traveling from out of state.  We booked over a year in advance and received a great deal that included our cake, chairs, linens & sashes, and a discounted room block.  I think one of the pros with hotel weddings is that typically the staff set things up and offer great service so you aren't running around setting up tables, directing vendors, etc.

  • We are having our ceremony at the Libertyview ballroom on the terrace (if weather permits) it overlooks the Liberty Bell. We are planning to have our reception at a unique lounge space...there aren't any good pics online of the lounge though...
