Wedding Invitations & Paper

Change from local wedding to small destination. .

We originally had planned to get married locally and had sent out save the dates a few months ago. Long story short, my fiance and I have decided with the blessing from our parents to have a small destination wedding instead. The date will remaint the same, just a different place. Things were just getting too big and it became about everyone else instead of what we wanted originally which is just to get married and have a memorable experience. Most of our close family and friends know and respect our decision, but we still want to send out announcements or something to people about our change of plans. We were going to have 200 people at our local wedding but since we have finally come to a realization that small is better for us, how can we word our change of plans in a fun/respectful way without having to invite everyone we sent a save the date to? We truly want to keep it at 40 at the most!  Which is truly our closest friends and family. We understand that having a destination wedding will naturally not allow most people to make it, but you never know!  Thank you for any help!

  • Send out an annoucement (postcard or small card in an envelope) that says, "The wedding of Jane Smith and Paul Jones will not take place as planned. We apologize for the inconvenience."

</div><div>Unfortunately, it is rude to not invite someone once you've sent a STD.  Some people may understand, but that doesn't make it less rude.  You probably will end up hurting some feelings with this, especially since you are still inviting a number of people.  The better option would be to still invite everyone to the wedding.</div><div>
</div><div>If you are ok with being rude and possibly hurting people, send out a note that says "the wedding of Jack and Jill will no longer take place as planned."  Get them out right away.  If anyone has incurred costs booking travel, that's going to be an issue.   </div><div>
</div><div>Either way, stay away from announcements.  That's just a slap in the face, and screams "at first we thouht we wanted you at our wedding, but once we thought about it, we decided that a pretty setting was more important than inviting you."
