At the risk of annoying people

Today when I went for my second interview, the people asked me where my husband was from because they thought that I was actually Asian. Buahahaha.

I love screwing with people. :D

Re: At the risk of annoying people

  • Did you ask if your interview was real or just part of affirmative action?  :P
  • Ha.  As if they have affirmative action here.

Though, the interviewer did tell me that compared to the US, working in Europe is "heaven and happiness"!!
  • Did they pull at the corners of their eyes when they said Asian?

I would like to see "heaven and happiness" at any normal workplace.  I work in purgatory.  I wonder if the same job in Scandinavia would be different.
  • So how did the second interview go?  What's next, physical challenge?
  • Did you dress more appropriate for a European workday?

Btw, I'm super jealous that you'll get to dress down so much. I was just informed that I need to "dress up, just a wee bit more" for work. FML. I'll never understand "casual workwear"
  • Well, we did mental acuity today, so maybe!  I also got to join in on some cake and champagne for a member of the team who is moving to Australia.  Weird.  Anyway, the interview was odd.  It had a really negative vibe to it.  The lady actually said to me, "You haven't worked in three years.  Are you just taking any job?" Um... WTF?  No.  If I was going to do that, I'd just keep walking dogs.

No Asian eyepulling, sadly.  But I kinda want to see it myself.

No.  I let H talk me into a skirt.  I froze my butt off.

What do you normally wear to work?  I have the idea that if it's casual, and people wear jeans, it's more about accessorizing your casual workwear.  So, wearing heels instead of sneakers, fun necklaces, etc.
  • the girls (ladies? which is more pc?) in our scandianvian offices always look so freakin chic, skinny jeans with blazers and posh scarves, if i tried that I'd look a wreck and probably be sent home. your interview was Denmark right?
  • fingers crossed you nail it!

We can wear whatever we want to work, basically, except shorts and... that's it. Technically no flip flops, but people get away with it. I do try to dress "business casual" though. Sometimes I wear jeans, but I wear them with flats and sweaters, not sneakers and sweatshirts. Today I'm wearing a sweater, khakis and flats. I wear skirts at least half the time, I'd say, and heels about half the time. I'm bad about jewelry - I always forget to wear it.

  • I love working at an advertising agency. Unless I'm meeting with a client (which is rare in my job) then I'm usually perfecting fine in jeans, tennis shoes, even a sweatshirt if it has the logo of one of our clients on it. It's awesome. I live in flip flops all summer.

People actually make comments if someone "dresses up" and they aren't in account services like "Ohhhhh have a job interview today?"
  • Apologies that I'm both late to this thread and have missed lots of background, but what is the job Amoro? Sounds positive thus far!
  • Normally I try to wear a skirt or dress but it's been crazy cold recently so I've been wearing black pants. It's SO hard to find pants long enough so I almost always wear flats. I've been told that black pants and a button up is "a little too much" and I've been told trouser jeans and a cardigan isn't good enough.

    *sigh*
