Hi everyone, My fiance and I are having a hard time choosing the song we'll have for our first dance.
Because our wedding is sort of a classic, timeless, almost-vintage theme (and because I think he's catchy), I've been pushing for Frank Sinatra. My fiance, on the other hand, really wants Elton John. We made a list of four songs, and every time I suggest we listen to others that we might both like, he says that he thinks adding to the list is unnecessary and will just make the choice harder, even though I'm not really into any of the songs on the list.
The list, by the way is this: "Your Song" - Elton John, "If I Never Knew You" - from Disney's Pocahontas, "Kiss From a Rose" - Seal, "So Close" - from Disney's Enchanted. I like all these songs just fine, but I don't know if I'd like to dance to them.
I feel bad pushing this point, and I know it's not a huge detail, but I just don't think any of the songs we picked are really meant for us. I think my fiance thinks I'll want a whole night of Sinatra if we choose him for our first dance, and that's not what I want either - I want our musical selection for the night to match our personalities, and the lyrics from "Fly Me to the Moon" are super-cute and bubbly and happy, and that's what we are. He also says that he doesn't think we can both have input on the song, because it's one choice, so someone will end up not getting what he or she wants (he's a math major, so it's all numbers for him).
What should we do?
