Wedding Woes

Lance Armstrong update.

stripped of all 7 tour de france victories, and is banned for LIFE from cycling tournaments.

he was given the chance to challenge the accusation of using performance enhancements, and he refused.

WOW.

Re: Lance Armstrong update.

  • I'm not sure if he was just tired of it, or by refusing he was admitting some culpability.  Just so strange, and sad really.

regardless of his reason for refusing, it's messed up. there's no proof he did anything, only the accusations. i'm a little surprised they declared him guilty without actual proof.
  • I'm not WZZ, he obviously pissed SOMEONE off.  And they were coming for him, *true life: I'm getting married style*.

  • O, I really need to get that one on dvd.

I could pop in in whenever I was having a bad day.

  • They're saying his blood tests from 2010 and either year before/after show proof of consistent EPO use.  There was a good timeline article on CNN somewhere.

He tried to sue the committee to get them to stop.  The US courts said they had no place in it and dismissed the case. He says he's just tired of it all and refusing to fight anymore, let them do what they want.

I don't know if he used or not.  But I do think they're using him as a scapegoat.  The committee keeps saying that their testing system is flawed and can be beat.  Well then, fix THAT.

oface, i believe H would agree with you. i don't know that much about this sport to really know why they'd want to get *him* specifically.

  • I say good for him for refusing to challenge it.   Whether he used or not, it's like they all have a vendetta against the guy.
  • Here was the article:   http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/23/sport/lance-armstrong-investigation/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

I keep wondering about the guy who has testified against him.  He's already banned, so he has nothing really to lose by lying or telling the truth.  But I also think there's a human condition where we like to pull our heroes down, make them just one of us instead of the super human that dominated such a difficult competition like the Tour de France.  So now, we all can be Lance Armstrong w/the right drugs, instead of him being someone to look at in awe.

I haven't had coffee yet, apparently.
  • YES, V.  YES!

If you're great at something, it's OBVIOUS you have to be cheating.  OBVIOUS.

Case in point:  Chinese swimmer at Olympics.

  • From my understanding, professional cycling is the dirtiest sport there is. My FI thinks Armstrong would not have been persecuted this way if he was from a European country. Me personally, I think he cheated, just like every other professional cyclists.

Yeeeah, I don't remember any accusations of cheating against Michael Phelps.  There's good, there's great, and then there's obviously cheating.

  • Well, give it a few years, Kuus.  Most of this "cheating" stuff on Armstrong didn't get started until about 3-5 years ago, well after his last Tour de France win.

The Chinese swimmer posting such amazing new records was actually defended by Phelps' coach who said Phelps' did the same thing in a high school growth spurt.  *shrugs*

I feel conflicted about it b/c I don't see how tests that were given and passed, can then be held out as proof of doping at a later time (I guess testing methods can change, but that quickly?  And after all of the accusations started?  How long do they keep the original tested blood I wonder, I honestly don't know).  A 2 year criminal investigation wasn't able to catch him if he did it, but this committee can, based on the word of an already fallen comrade?

Armstrong is no hero in his personal life, he's really kind of an a$$hat of a man.  But that shouldn't = a$$hat of an athelete too.  Sciencists have compared him and his heart is something like 1x time larger than a normal human heart, so could that explain why he has more red blood cells than a normal person?  (IDK, that's an honest question).

It's really just fish on all participants behavior.
