Make Up Trial or No Make Up Trial?

Hi gals! I'm getting a hair trial done in a couple weeks, and just need an opinion. Did you get a make up trial? Was it worth it? Most importantly, do you think you could have gotten away with not doing one?

Re: Make Up Trial or No Make Up Trial?

  • I would highly recommend a make-up trial. In my trial, we did airbrush make-up and I ended up hating it and deciding to go with regular make-up. I'm glad we did that ahead of time instead of on the wedding day. You can also experiment with different eye colors, etc and see what it looks like in different light when you leave the salon. If you hate it, you have a chance to look at some pics and find something else you like more. I would hate to show up on my wedding day and loathe my make-up, and then have to scramble to come up with something else.

  • I say yes (although I accidentally voted no!)  My first trial was a disaster--if I had ended up looking like that on my wedding day, I would have been very disappointed.
  • Definitely get a trial!  I'm so glad I did, because I hated the way my makeup came out with the first MUA I used.  I then booked a trial with a different MUA and I liked it much better.

I wouldn't even book anyone until you get a trial and know for sure you're going to like it.
  • If you are doing pro makeup, absolutely do a makeup trial.  I did my own, so I did approximately 97 makeup trials.
  • LMAO, "I'm a magical unicorn!"  That almost got my vote, but I wanted to be helpful ;D
  • I am doing one. I agree with PP, your idea of what looks good on you and the MUA could be totally different. A gf of mine that has done makeup for years and I think she looks fabulous will be doing my girls and I all on my wedding day. However her makeup coverage on an everyday basis is alot more than I would be comfortable wearing. She will probably have me looking lovely, but it still needs to match the idea in my head of how I want to look on my wedding day.

  • I didnt want to do one either because it just adds on to the costs. i'd rather be using the money on my honey moon. One MUA mentioned getting the trial done for the engagement party or rehearsal dinner so it doesnt feel like a waste but what if i hate it? then i'll be stuck with ugly makeup for my party. I liked Aileen Maria's tips on getting a free makeup trial in Budget Conscious Nuptials. I'm going to try that before spending my money.

This is one cost I wasn't adverse to spending on!  I'd rather have one less dinner out or whatever.  I figure it's the most photographed day of my life.....and I don't want to hate my makeup and look back and regret not doing a trial.

And in my case, the trial made me realize I really didn't like the 1st MUA (who many people raved about) and I ended up going with someone totally different.
  • I really think you should. I'm doing my own so I can do what I want. Do your trial so you can see exactly what works for you.
