Limo question (and small rant)

Did anyone rent a limo or party bus under regular rates and avoid the "wedding package"?

We're researching party buses today, and I'm a little appalled that this one company's website shows that a 4-hour rental is $792, but a 3.5 hour "wedding package" is $1000!  I called to ask about it, and they offered me a "discount' to $960, explaining that a wedding rental is "much more involved."  But I don't really think we need a red carpet, champagne toast, and tuxedoed driver - those things aren't worth $200 to me.   I just want a fun ride from the church to the venue!

Bottom line is, we can rent it under regular rates if we want to, but I'm wondering if anyone else did that or is planning to do that.

Did you explain to them that you just want a basic limo ride without all of the bells and whistles (no champagne, no red carpet, etc)?

They may also charge more because the drivers often do more than they otherwise would if they were just driving a group into the city, for example.  I've read so many times on this board about the drivers going above and beyond to make sure the bride's dress stays clean and dry and they make sure other things are being taken care of.

Just guessing, but it could be another reason (along with the fact that EVERYTHING wedding-related has an inflated price).

<div>Yes, and of course they have to let us choose that but the woman I talked to was NOT happy about it.  I'm sure the reason for the inflation is everything you listed.  She said as much on the phone.  I'm just thinking we don't really need all of that and we're trying to save wherever possible.  So I wondered if anyone else had opted for a plain old limo ride.</div>

I didn't really care for the champagne and everything, but since my church had no coordinator, if it wasn't for my driver and assistant, my dress would have been a mess down the aisle.  He also checked the church's capacity and was there anytime I needed to someone to help me with my dress or hold my flowers.  I'm not sure how big of a bus you need, but we got ours through Max's Party bus and it was a 24 passenger for about $850.
